How to I stop receiving politcal Messages even after blocking them

I'm guessing that there was some kind of big political news … my iMessage gets crowded every time .

I had exited my empty text message app , went to inspect my iCloud storage and messages = 594.7 kb !

So I went back over to my messages app containing 19 messages from politicians . The worst part is that when I proceeded to block the caller , they were already blocked and after I texted " Stop to End " back to them .

So they were blocked and still ended up in my messages … why is that ?

I hadn't received this many all at once in the past . It was quite time consuming to block them , reply to stop and delete . I do not wish to repeat this debacle and don't know what to do about it , please help .

I'm not exactly clear what your question is. The amount of storage you gave, 594.7 kb is tiny, certainly nothing to worry about.

Political text messages in the U.S. fall into a slightly different category than other messages. As I understand it, the rules for them are slightly more relaxed. But, like spammers, they generally come from many different numbers. So, blocking one has little effect.

Personally, I'd just delete them and not worry about it. You can turn on Settings>Messages>Unknown & Spam>Filter Unknown Senders. This will dump them in the Unknown Senders folder where you can delete them in batches.

Other folks have had some success with an app called Sifter. I haven't used it myself, though.

I can't answer why they aren't being blocked other than to suggest they're varying the numbers. I've also never heard of "Stop2End" as a way to stop anything. I mostly just see "STOP" as the option. Sometimes "N" or "No".

I've been lucky despite being in a battleground state (possibly the same one as you), I haven't gotten very many this election cycle.

Hi Idris ,

My question is why are they allowed in if I blocked them , and any other steps that I can take to keep them out ? I reply with " Stop2End" and block the caller .

I'm a political science kind of person so I'm not surprised that I'm getting them , there's just way too many . I do know that they are exempt from the " do not call registry " .

The Attention Aware Feature looks like it reduces the volume , I didn't have any sound at all . Since you're not going to worry about it , then I won't either .

I forgot all about the Unknown Senders folder , I'm delighted that you thought of it .

So the Unknown Senders folder will work out well , easier & faster .

I get dozens every day, and I’m NOT in a battleground state. They want me to send money to candidates IN battleground states. I’ve noticed that iCloud now puts most of them in the Junk folder, which gets 50 to 100 messages a day, along with real spam. Which is very annoying, because it makes it much harder to sort through for the false positives.

Hi Idris ,

💬 Just heard the tweety bird for an incoming message … and it's from Governor Walz .
It's in both the Unknown Sender folder and Messages folder .

Apparently Governer Walz doesn't like me. And I now understand what you meant!

Well if there's a chance you live in the same state as me , come on over for tea sometime !

I would love to, but although I think we live in the same state, I'm on the other side.

I've done that . In my county , we know the party preference for each address on the list and distribute the appropriate literature .

I've also done canvassing in Fairfax County, VA (for a relative who was running for State Senate or something) and we had lists. Sure, if we saw someone outside, we'd try to engage them even if they weren't on the list but we didn't leave literature unless asked in those cases.
