I placed the pre-order promptly this morning the moment the apple stored allowed. My card has already been charged and the order is now in "processing". Apple usually does not charge for payment until an order shipped. Can I assume my phone is shipping or very close to it and potentially will receive before the launch date on the 20th?

Also, not sure what country you are in but if you are in the US if you have an account with UPS or FedEx you can often see when info about your package once a label was created before you may receive an email or text from Apple about it officially shipping. In the past it’s how I would track movement of preorders seeing them travel through China and its various stops until it reached the US and then reached the UPS hub in Lexington KY then sit for several days (due to the shipping exceptions that Apple imposed) then usually the day before launch is when it starts moving again to reach your city/area distribution center and then of course loaded onto the truck that will deliver it to you.

If you're in the US and you have a UPS My Choice Account, you can see the tracking information. If you don't, just wait and Apple will send you a tracking notification in an email. If your phone is coming Friday, trust me, it's moving normally. Apple just doesn't send out the tracking emails until it's with a regional or local carrier.
Thanks for the advice! I've not received any shipping notification from Apple for my iPhone 16 Pro Max or Apple Watch Ultra 2 but I checked my UPS account and it shows both items were shipped Sept. 15th and on schedule to be delivered on the 20th.
I ordered a iPhone Pro Max at just after 8 am PST on 9/13 (via t-mobile). Order was fully confirmed a little later in the day and processed a couple of days later. This afternoon (9/19), I received a shipping notice with a UPS tracking number. The package is tracking out of Louisville KY with a estimated arrival (west coast) of tomorrow (9/20) by 7 pm PST. This was definitely an earlier shipment than I had expected. The entire time, my order status had shown a estimated ship date of 9/20.
Most likely it won’t get delivered on 9/18.
The carrier will hold it until 9/20.
The carrier may make a mistake and deliver it early but I would not count on it.
Was able to get my tracking number even though Apple has not given it to me. Just had my reference number and talking to ups they gave me the tracking number🎉
No one is getting them before 9/20
I found my tracking info in UPS. It’s shipping from Zheng Zhou China. Currently sitting in Kentucky on the 18th.
Go to Fedex.com your tracking number should be there.
It will show processing until it actually is ready to be shipped. And since your iPhone won't ship until October, the status won't change for some time to come.
Mine originally said delivery for the 23rd, but when I go to my UPS I see a shipment there coming from china that has already gone through Alaska and arrived to Louisville yesterday, I’m not expecting anything else from UPS so I’m assuming this is my phone, and best thing is that it’s saying it’s going to be delivered on the 20th
The second a shipping label is created you can see it through My UPS. I have an account and almost always get notified about a packaged BEFORE the retailer (Apple in this case) sends me a shipping notification. So, no it’s not false.
I ordered iPhone 16 on pre order day @10-15pm in South Australia. Date for delivery was 23/9/24. Apple put pending on card as usual. Coming via Star track, arrived at Adelaide Airport on 19/9/24 sat there for over a day next it was transferred to Netley on Friday afternoon. It has been sitting there ever since, numerous questions to Apple and all I get delivery is 23/9/23.
my question is why couldn’t have been delivered on release day 20/9/24. It was 30 minutes away from me.
in future I will select pick up in store. Apple has taken the money from credit card normally it’s after delivery to me.
I pre-ordered mine with Verizon on 9/13. It shipped out in 9/16 with overnight shipping but is being held by the carrier (UPS) until 9/20.
What does the other phone order suggest as when it will deliver? Open the order email confirmation you received from Apple for that phone.

You won't get an update with a tracking number until likely Wednesday at the earliest. But your phone is moving through the system as it should. Read my post above about how I've been able to track mine even though Apple hasn't given me the tracking number. Bottom line though, is if Apple says you'll get your phone on the 20th, you WILL get your phone on the 20th.
