On-screen keyboard keeps disappearing

I updated my iPad Pro 12.9” 3rd Generation to iPadOS 18 today. Since then, I’m having an issue where my on-screen (virtual) keyboard disappears after I type each letter. I have to bring the keyboard back up after each letter, which obviously I’m not going to do. At this moment, I’m using the keyboard in my Apple keyboard case just so I can type this. If I detach the iPad, then the on-screen keyboard works fine. This wasn’t the case before I upgraded. I do not want to remove the iPad from the case every time I want to use the on-screen keyboard. I shouldn’t have to. Nor do I want to use the keyboard in the case every time I want to type more than one letter of the alphabet. I shouldn’t have to.

Now it’s happening again. Great. An intermittent problem. That makes it even worse.

I’m fed up with the typing issues on my iPad. I posted in another thread about problems I’m having with capitalization not working, which has become a major inconvenience. I reported it to Apple, but never heard from them. I think I’ll start tablet shopping.
