Where did the Camera Roll go in iOS 18

I do NOT like what Apple did to the Photos in iOS 18... I can not find the Camera Roll. Closest is Recent Days, but it does not show all the pictures that were on the Camera Roll. I have to use a third party app on my PC to see the photos. I think Apple screwed up somewhere. Come on Apple, put Camera Roll back the way it used to be and the way it should be.

I need this back ASAP. The way I use photos is completely broken now. I need a place to see all photos that are on my iphone and have not yet been transferred off my device.

With 5 pages on this controversy, in 3 days, how many of you have sent feedback to Apple complaining to bring back Camera Roll or the most recent (Recents) or saying how great Photos is in iOS 18? The more complaining people do about this, the better the chances are of having it come back. I have sent in mine. I wonder what the best way to keep track would be?

There really isn't any way to keep track of it. I know I've seem some online articles complaining about the changes in Photos. Find those folks (if they're real people and not AIs) and drop them a line or comment on their articles.

It's a lot of work to turn an aircraft carrier.

I have same issue: back up fotos on my PC and sync back. The camera roll is used for non-synced photos only. I guess most people are not that organized and don't get any use out of the camera roll folder. But why do those who have order in their photos have to be disorganized? The new photo app is not organized, it's chaos! Apple, please bring back the camera roll!

I guess you didn’t bother to read the thread you added to.

It truly is awful. Which genius thought it would be a good idea to replace the day/month/year feature with just “days”. And no, the search /filter does not help when you are trying to look for a photo taken sometime at the beginning of 2008…. We now have two dozen different ways to look for photos and NOT ONE is an improvement on the old version.

Your post helped me.

about 7 pictures I took yesterday were not in Photos

but if I open camera and tap thumbnail in bottom left corner. There they are.

apparently many people are experiencing this issue which means Apple will fix in next update.

thanks for posting that idea (finding recents through camera app)

Apple get on the ball

gow did this squeak through Q and A testing.

I’ve tried and tired to use the new Photos add for the last 4 days, but the more I use it, the more frustrated I get. Each task is far more convoluted that the previous Photos, and just not well thought out. Especially if you’re someone that puts in the effort to organize your photos on the desktop into albums, and sync them back the phone. It’s an epic fail, much worse than the maps fiasco from years past. I’m at the point I’m returning my 16PM, and going back to my 14PM running 17.

Is this Apple’s “New Coke” moment?

Last Saturday I took about 8 pictures, only 2 showed in "Photos"

I had to search online in this support thread to see that pictures that fail to show in correct place are able to be seen once I open the camera, and then tap on the lower left corner photo thumbnail, then poof magically all the pics that should be in "Photos" are all right there, present in the Camera app, thumbnail view, and I can scroll horizontally to see them. Apple took the liberty to take away "camera roll" just rename it back to that. It benefited nobody to change the name. and if I am wrong then why are so many people looking online for help? Anyway.... Apple will eventually change this around... again. I am happy to see I am not the only one dealing with this. TLDR - Look in Camera app for any pics not showing in "Photos" Apple, admit it, you goofed on this one.

I agree entirely. I currently have 84,000 photos on my iphone - ongoing daily. The majority of which are in carefully produced titled folders which I can access as required. I don’t need these images on my camera roll! Camera Roll is Camera Roll - not Camera Roll Plus Plus Plus! It’s just extra pollution!

Apple please allow clarity to prevail again - as before. Douglas

Using MS Photos appears to be the solution for me. I've always used Windows Explorer to download photos, but MS Photos seems to work better, plus it's what Apple recommends and supports.

When I open MS Photos with my phone connected, it shows what is on my camera roll. I can bulk select and download them to my PC from here. They are all in one place, which is nice, as Explorer seemed to have some strangely named folders and I had to open all of them. It also seems I can bulk select and delete from MS Photos. I was always careful not to do that with Explorer, as it can corrupt the photos database.

Give this a try if you're on a PC. It's possible that the instructions in that link for Mac's will do something similar.

I’m here because there’s a problem with the photos app. With IOS 18.0 , when you pull cards off of SD card , they used to go into a separate IMPORT folder. It’s not there anymore and now they are tossed into my normal pics. This is a problem because it’s hunting season and I literally upload at least 20,000 pics a month . We need imported pics to go to its own imported slot. I can’t believe Apple did this

It’s awful. Just awful. I liked having the albums tab, the library where everything is date ordered but also the camera roll where it’s all sorted by date added. The tabs kept it clean and easier to manage. It also meant I could view a photo in an album but also then see it in the library. The new layout is suffocating and so annoying.
