The apple tv remote keeps coming up on my lock screen and I don't really use my phone to control my apple tv. Is there any way to get rid of it automatically popping up? I even tried to forget device via my Apple TV but still did not work.

Found the solution to be on the apple tv. Go to settings on the tv, remotes and devices, remote app and devices, locate your phone on screen and remove it. The lock screen issue should be resolved.
Not really a fix but you can unlock your phone, open the remote and then kill it. It will disappear until you use the remote again. It won’t show up as a running app after you unlock until you open it.
There should be a way to keep it off the lock screen altogether.
Go to lock screen, swipe down from upper right corner to bring down the control center. Touch the plus in the upper left corner, find your Apple TV remote and delete it with the minus. This worked for me.
I think I finally got it figured out. Settings > Apps > Remote > Siri > turn off everything
Settings > Notifications > Apple TV Keyboard > Off
Disabling airplay in the appletv(console) settings worked for me.

That's an alert. Not an icon. You should be able to swipe it to the left all the way to get rid of it.
It's definitely not an alert, it's more like a Live Activity, however there are no specific Live Activity settings for the Remote. Turning off Live Activities for Apple TV doesn't work. It's showing up constantly, on my iPad as well.
Hey there – which fix are you referring to? If it's this one (General > Airplay & Continuity > Automatically AirPlay > Never), that doesn't turn off AirPlay at all, it only turns off "automatically" AirPlaying, which is the culprit for the original issue here. Hope this helps!
This worked initially but it’s back. The only way I can make it go away is to click the icon and then kill it. I need to kill it every time I use it if I don’t want it to remain on the lock screen.
Still didn't work. Not sure why it keeps popping up. I even put forget device for my iphone from the apple tv settings. I even turned off notifications as another user put it. It's rather annoying that it just keeps popping up every time I'm watching tv.
You're right that it is an alert but the alert only come when I use my apple tv remote or when I'm using my apple tv. As for the SportsCenter, that was just playing on my tv screen. I don't think it pertains to any notification from ESPN.
This works perfectly. If you're not going to tell me how to toggle off this "feature", I'll just remove it entirely.

My elderly mom and my brother live in the same house, and both have an Apple TV 4k on the same network and Apple Family account.
She have already twice connected her iPhone to my brothers ATV, once turned his tv on late at night...

Same issue and none of the workarounds worked for me. Removed all devices from Apple TV settings - Remotes. Turned off Live Activities for Apple TV on my phone too. Still popping up. I know I can swipe it away but I DONT WANT IT TO POP UP IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Hey so this was driving me nuts for a while but I figured it out. Go to settings, Apps, navigate to tv, and select live updates from the menu should be the third option click the toggle for allow live updates and turn it off.
