Why can't I schedule messages to Android users on iPhone?

As someone who switched to Apple a few years back, I was incredibly excited for the “send later” function (which other brands have had for ages). I update my phone yesterday and go to schedule a message to someone who has an android and realize the functionality only applies to other iPhone users?! Please tell me this is a bug or a glitch?!

Are you freaking kidding me!!! I’ve been waiting for months for this update so that my phone can do what my family’s android phones have been doing forever only to find out I can only schedule texts for other iPhones!!! This is beyond ridiculous!!!

the feature doesn’t pop up as an option for non-iPhone users. I use this feature for work to schedule messages. For other iPhone users, the “send later” option pops up as an option. For android users, the option of “send later” is not present when I click on the plus sign

Yes, that's an accurate observation. The feature is currently only available for iMessage users.

To @IdrisSeabright: I'd been using RCS on my previous Android's default messaging for years. I don't think mine was special in any way. Sometimes Apple users' defenses of Apple's choices, omissions, feature fails, and refusal to play well with others, feels a little cult-like. Apologies if that's not you. It's definitely not me.

If you've been using Google's messaging app, then yes, RCS will work on your Android. But I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of bananas. Apple, for some very good reasons, chose not to implement Google's version of RCS. Whether that turns out to be the right decision or not is something that only time will tell.

Personally, I don't understand the fuss. I've been using SMS with Android users (and iPhone users who chose not to use iMessage) for years with no issue.

I was just responding to your comment* that Android "isn't all beer and skittles," citing an absence of RCS on Android messaging. RCS popped up as ab option for me years ago on Android. I do agree it wasn't clear what the fuss was about. Just saying that it was among Android's beer and skittles! Ps, I appreciate the link to Apple's complaints/requests page where I shared my thoughts.

*when I tried to comment directly to that comment, the spinning circle just hung every time and it never worked. Another Apple "feature," I guess ; ). Heh

Again, if you have the right messaging app on your Android, you get Google's version of RCS. If that's what works for you, outstanding. That was my entire point.

1) I've actually never used Siri;

Now is as good a time as any to try.

2) Texts get my attention,

Reminders can get your attention, too.

3) It works for me. I'm super busy and don't need to add one more thing/place to check at the moment.

No, apparently, as well as you'd like. And it never hurts to learn how to do new things.

It rarely hurts to learn new things, but I have never been so busy in my life, ramping up in a new field. One more New thing or one more thing that doesn't work might be the end of me.

Also Seems weird to imply that users should make compromises because the phone itself isn't living up to simple expectations.

I also get far, far (far) too many notifications because iPhones' + apps' settings are not granular enough. In a lot of cases it's really just: do you get all, do you get none? I check text all the time, whether I'm looking at notifications or not.

Siri would be one more thing crowding my notifications and probably getting missed at this point.

Sometimes you have to be realistic about your current bandwidth, and flow, and go with the low impact choice. And really, I don't want my phone to still still be a constant research project/crash course at this point. It's tiring

I don't mean to offend anyone *personally* by "complaining" about the iPhone. I can't say that I ever would have been personally offended had someone complained about an Android feature when I had the Android. I'd either offer ideas (offered here, appreciated--if not stuff I can check out at the moment), or say "amen," if it was an issue for me too.

I'm not sure where you're getting this idea that people are "offended." The fact that people openly disagree with you doesn't mean they are offended. It just means they disagree.

I'd like to point out that, in the time you've spent posting these very long responses, you could have learned how to use Siri and Reminders. So, not so busy.

Appreciate the reply. Yes, I was cajoled into it by my bf who's never had an Android. I've actually had the iPhone for 3/4 of a year! I specifically got it during a time when I could transition a bit gracefully. I feel like I'm relatively up and running. Appreciate it, though. (Haven't used Siri bc I've just never had the desire to, but I might try it or the Android/Google equivalent at some point.)

It may be that I just prefer the way Android handles the things I use the most (not to go into all the annoyances/preferences here). But I definitely didn't expect the iPhone to be just like Android. Just as my Apple computers and tablets aren't like my Windows machines. I won't be switching phones soon so I'm finding workarounds where things don't "work" (/well for me). It's just frustrating. Especially given all the build up, I was open to the iPhone being actually better! Not so much for me so far which is, yes, frustrating.

I switched from Samsung to Apple last year because I customized my phone.. Then I'd update and it would revert back somewhat.. I wanted something that just worked.. And we'll apple phones work consistently.. But I can see how there is a behind the scenes battle being fought ONLY by Apple. And it's pathetic. Now I have RCS compatibility. But I can't schedule messages to android? This is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I'm not going to throw a fit about it.. But I'd love to see it fixed.
