How to have different pinned contacts in Messages app on iPhone and on Mac

Since I use my Mac during the day mostly for work, I'd like to pin my work contacts on my Mac Messaging app. However, since I use my iPhone mostly only for personal messaging, I'd like to have different pinned contacts on my iPhone Messaging app.

I used to be able to keep these different, however, recently, my Mac Messaging app changed to match the pinned contacts that I have on my iPhone. When I changed them back, it synced that way on my phone, which I don't want.

Is there any way to keep these pinned contacts from syncing from one device to the other?
