No sound from videos in photos after iOS18 update

I’ve updated my iPhone to iOS18 and in photos when you play a video, it plays but there is no sound and this is on all my videos not just the ones I’ve recorded since updating to iOS18, anyone else got this problem? Anyone know how to fix this? I’ve notice this happens in silent mode when it didn’t before, I always have my phone on silent and I don’t want to have to un-silent my phone everytime I watch a video!

The update to iOS 18.1 has put the audio back for all stored videos, both downloaded and recorded. Nothing else has been changed in any of my settings. I just updated to 18.1 and the sound is back.

no resetting the iPhone, changing audio formats, or saving and resending videos needed. Just the update.

Again, my iPhone is the 13 Pro. They may be other audio issues that are specific to your iPhone. Mine doesn’t have special audio recording. So that was never the issue with mine.

I no longer have to switch off silent mode or move the volume up/down to get the audio to play.

Additionally, the audio fixing itself didn’t happen from the previous 18.0.1 update, just the 18.1.

same thing happening here. on instagram and in my google videos, i have to toggle the ringer to on, even though in the sound and haptics settings, it clearly states “iPhone will not play ringtones, alerts, and system sounds. iPhone will still play alarms, timers, music, and audio from videos.” when silent mode is on. this is soooooo frustrating. apple needs to fix asap

Guys..

Stop reset your phones. I had this before. The sound is muted by default. There is some option in the settings to change the volume. It is set to standard in the options somewhere. I can't find the option after a quick look.

I will look a bit deeper into this soon. This has nothing to do with iOS18. Update to 18 just resets the option to mute the videos when you are in silent mode.

The option to toggle on/off is somewhere in the settings.

Use the side control and turn the volume n up or hit the speaker icon to play sound on the video.

They definitely need to add an option for this in Photo settings. Almost everyone keeps their phone on silent; it doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear the audio on our own videos. They’re not even on auto-play so it’s not like it stops anyone from accidentally blasting sound when they don’t mean to — it’s just extra hassle. Bad enough that all the social media apps do this — I don’t need this pointless additional annoyance on my own personal photos.

For me, I realize this is related to silent mode. I think somebody else mentioned this as well. Yes, this is bloody annoying. This is not how it was previously. I suspect it’s a glitch or over sight. As other people have said, my phone is always on silent mode, but that does not mean I don’t want to hear the audio in my videos. I hope Apple fixes this soon.

I upgraded to 18 as well and I can’t get sound on my videos. Nor can I find the sound button on my videos there are lots of things that won’t work on my videos. On my phone I mean. I’ll touch something to type or send a message and it hesitates on me. This upgrade is horrible and it’s changed my phone or I don’t even know how to use it for the mouse part! Apple needs to fix these problems ASAP.

Yesterday, I recorded several videos using the front camera of my iPhone 15 Pro Max. One of them is approximately 15 minutes long. Just 2 minutes before recording this 15-minute video, I recorded another video, and the audio is present in that one. However, in the longer 15-minute video, there is no audio. When I check the video in the gallery, the audio toggle is active, indicating that it’s supposed to be a video with sound. I just can’t understand why there’s no sound in this longer video when the audio was perfectly fine in the video recorded right before it. I haven’t been able to solve this issue.

This video I recorded could have been one of the most important moments of my life. How can such an error happen? I’d also like to mention that my phone is currently updated to the latest version.

Indeed, had the exact same problem. I use this on a daily basis: a quick recording with photo’s app and then stream it to my old hifi stereo connected to my Airport Express.

This no longer works. I can play only music from Apple Music, not from any other sources like Photos app.

What a fail from Apple.

And another fail in their support. I contacted them the day I installed iOS18. Did some troubleshooting through chat on a Saturday. Didn’t solve it so I scheduled an appointment on Monday. Heard nobody. Noone ever called back or gave me explanation. ☹️

Fix it Apple!
