\How did you you reset to "factory settings"? Did you just try to reinstall macOS overtop of itself? Or did you erase part of the disk? If the latter, exactly what did you erase?

For these older Intel Macs, I prefer to erase the whole physical drive instead of just a volume (don't do this on an M-series Mac). Unfortunately Apple hides the physical drive by default in Disk Utility. At the very least you needed to delete the "Volume Group" on macOS 10.15+ (if you delete the "Data" volume, then it should prompt you to delete the "Volume Group" which contains both the "Data" volume & macOS "System" volume).

Is Filevault enabled? If so, then the first prompt may be for the Filevault password (could be a previous password you no longer use), while the second prompt will be for the current user account & password. Normally macOS makes this appear seamless, but this seamlessness can sometimes break if the user account password is changed resulting in being presented with two login prompts requiring different passwords.

Also, why did you factory reset the laptop? Whatever problem you were trying to resolve could still be causing you problems now, so knowing that information may be important.

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if that makes any difference.

Disconnect all external devices as well.

Thank you for all the information, i trie to read and understand all this,

also i have to translate some of the info into German. Unfortunately i am not a 100% shure of what i did exactly,

i might be able to explain better, once i get into computer again.

I wanted to prep the computer for selling & the computer seemed to be very slow in operating,, i am not shure if all of this is worth doing since it is an old computer.

best, D.
