iPhone 16 Pro Max Screen Unresponsive

Is anyone else noticing their iPhone 16 pro max being unresponsive sometimes when touching the screen, typing, swiping.

Im not even using a screen protector and it’s like it. Makes things seem really laggy sometimes.

Did not expect it on a brand new iPhone.

After iOS 18.0.1 did not fully fix the problem that I had with my laggy screen, I ended up making an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store the day before yesterday, and they did a bunch of hardware diagnostics. My phone failed the Touch Screen Responsiveness Test, so they swapped out my iPhone 16 Pro Max with a new one. I immediately noticed the huge change in responsiveness with the new phone, and it has been absolutely perfect ever since. This has solved my problem completely, and I no longer have any issues with my iPhone whatsoever. It’s awesome now.

Yes! I have to press keys two or three times and there is so much lag on my brand new 16 pro max. Using x and Instagram is maddening because of the lag. Even typing right now it's stuttering and freezing. My 11 pro was better! I spent a fortune on the phone and accessories. This is completely unacceptable. If this isn't fixed asap the phone is getting returned.

Get your act together, Apple! Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave.

I have done the 18.0.1 iOS update and I haven’t noticed a difference. The screen is still incredibly laggy and sometimes totally unresponsive (particularly right hand side of

screen when trying to send WhatsApp messages, and top left when pressing a “back” arrow in an app). I pre-ordered my device so gutted as am sure I am now outside of the return window. 😩

I upgraded from the 13 thinking it's about time I upgrade. Was going to get the 15 pro but then it was just one more week of waiting and then got the 16 pro. The screen worked fine until I put on the screen protector. Now I have to be cautious when typing. I saved up all that money for this. They did release an update claiming it'll fix the issue but when it installed I'm still having the same issue.

Shout out to auto correct for fixing some typing malfunctions during this post.

Hopefully they send you a brand new one and not a refurbished one. Carriers love to send out those refurbs for replacements.

As does Apple; read your warranty, emboldening mine:

If during the Warranty Period you submit a claim to Apple or an AASP in accordance with this warranty, Apple will, at its option:

(i) repair the Apple Product using new or previously used Apple genuine parts that have been tested and passed Apple functional requirements,

(ii) replace the Apple Product with a replacement product of the same model (or with your consent a product that has the same or substantially similar features as the original product – e.g., a different model with the same features, or the same model in a different color) that is new or comprised of new and/or previously used Apple genuine parts and has been tested and passed Apple functional requirements, or

(iii) exchange the Apple Product for a refund of your purchase price.

Yes, I’m on newest version as of today, they did some test and diagnosis here there, they said everything is fine, they didn’t find anything that needs to make repair or replace 😭😭, I’m not asking for refund, I want to have exchange, and my phone is brand new, they refuse, and I have to deal with it everyday so sad………

I have summarised the problem to 3 issues which a lot of people were facing, which one do you have ?

Issue A : Touch screen does not react to taps or swipes intermittently (repeated tap/swipe required).

Issue B : Touch feels laggy. It reacts but not immediately (most noticeable when typing quickly on the keyboard).

Issue C : Parts of the screen near the edges never react to touch input (the right part of P or backspace button on keyboard near the edge of the screen)
