iPhone 16 pro macro freezes and doesn't work on 4k at 24 fps and 4k at 30 fps

I understand the different cameras but I'm not sure if you are understanding my issue. Even Apple support is saying it's an issue and thinks I should replace it so I am a bit confused as to what you are getting at.

Our issue isn't with photos or the wide angle camera it's with video. When shooting with the camera video at 1x in 4k at 24 fps or 4k at 30 fps the macro lens will freeze and then stop recording and switch back to the main lens. We're not able to record or have the video screen, in non-record mode, show macro without freezing and switching the lens. Hey Chris, thanks so much for sharing that info! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one having this issue. My iPhone 15 Pro works perfectly with macro, but like you, I’m running into the problem on my iPhone 16 Pro. When I called Apple support yesterday, they said no reports had come in yet which might be why they recommanded I return mine, but now that your senior advisor has escalated the issue, it’s reassuring to know they’re looking into it. Did Apple suggest to you on waiting for a software update or recommend a replacement? I appreciate you offering to update us once they call you back! Fingers crossed they release a fix soon!

Now that's 6 people having the same issue. What iPhone 16 model do you have? When you contacted Apple support what did they tell you? This is so strange, I'm so curious to figure out what is causing the issue. Glad you found this forum!

I completely agree—macro video should absolutely work in 4K 24 and 4K 30 without having to enable HDR. We shouldn’t have to rely on a workaround for something that should function out of the box. Do you think Apple will resolve this soon? I’m really hoping it’s something that can be fixed with an iOS update rather than a hardware issue that would require us to replace our phones. Fingers crossed it’s the former!

I feel yeah, I am annoyed too because I was also told by Apple support they have not heard of anyone having this issue but yet we're up to 14 people so far between this forum and the Reddit forum. Interesting to know when you wiped your phone the camera worked fine. When you say backup is that when we transfer from our old phone to the new one or do you mean backup as in the iCloud?

I’ve come across another camera issue in addition to the macro lens freezing in 4K 24 and 4K 30. When I start filming in 1x, I’m able to switch between 2x and 5x, but I can’t switch to .5x. However, if I begin recording in .5x, I can shoot fine, but the moment I try switching to another lens like 1x, 2x, or 5x, the camera freezes, stops recording, and reverts back to the main lens. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I’m filming in 4K 24 fps and avoiding HDR because, as a content creator, HEVC codecs aren’t practical for me.

thank you for sharing! Glad to know there are many people with this issue and Apple is now aware of this. When I called on Saturday I was told no one had called in. I called again last night. I'll post my experience above this comment. Thanks again for letting all of us know what you found out :)

Sorry to hear you are having the same issue. I wonder if it's a software fix or if the lenses are bad and we would need a replacement phone. Such a bummer of a situation.
