Apple CarPlay Not Working in iOS 18.0

I am using iPhone 13 and recently I have updated to iOS 18.0. Since that day, maps are showing blank on the car when I connect through the Apple CarPlay, and a message is displayed after a few minutes on the car screen stating the location information is not available. When I start the car immediately maps are turning to blank on the car display.

What exactly is the issue you are experiencing with CarPlay? Since you haven't provided specific details about the problem, I recommend trying to reestablish a fresh connection, as this resolves the issue most of the time. Also, ensure that CarPlay is allowed under Content & Privacy Restrictions in your settings. Additionally, you can check out this resource that discusses CarPlay issues: 9 Ways to Fix Apple CarPlay Not Working. It might offer some solutions that apply to your situation. Hope this helps

Is this an OEM head unit or aftermarket? Have you checked to see if the head unit has any firmware updates (depending on how old it is or the manufacturer you may be able to check for OTA updates. Otherwise you might have to check their website for any firmware updates and instructions on how you would install it). I personally have not experienced any issues with CarPlay and its OEM head unit in my vehicle with iOS 18 (the wireless version or wired one). Last year when iOS 17 came out I had issues after the 2nd update meant to address problems for 1-2 specific car brands ended up causing issues for a lot of other brands that were addressed with another update. That particular situation does not seem to be what’s going on so far this year though so as it stands the first steps are to make sure there isn’t a firmware update for your head unit. Also check forums for your particular situation (if it is an OEM head unit and there is a problem that affects everyone you will see a lot of chatter on the forums for your vehicle brand. If it is an aftermarket unit checking the forums for that brand would do the same).

CarPlay (wireless) working as expected on my 2024 Traverse LT and iOS 18 on my iPhone 13. We’ve taken several trips now and it performs perfectly well. Suspecting this issue is with your vehicle that may require a firmware update. I do notice that your screen shot is for Google maps. Do you have the same issue with Apple maps?

I’m also having a ton of issues with the new iOS 18 update. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Every time I connect to CarPlay, it says that I need to turn on location services for Maps to connect. I allow it every time and there is no way to turn location settings on to “always allow.” Maps will only work with CarPlay now if I have maps open on my phone. If I close the app on my phone, it stops work on CarPlay. I never had any issues before the update and this is beyond frustrating. I’m also getting annoying glitches with the weather app working on my Apple Watch. It won’t show up at all despite the setting being on “always allow” location settings.

Distorted sound and volume issue here but I have not updated to 18. Currently iOS 17.6.1 on a 15+. This issue showed up after dealership rebooted the infotainment system (Saturday/Monday - not sure if this is coincidence or not).

Works with old phone under iOS 16.6.1 and iPod Touch 15.8.3 (usb only).

I've swapped cables and ports in my Nissan Kicks. No joy.

I still need to try and forget the car and redo the connection.

I have a 2023 Hyundai Kona electric. I reset the screen by pressing the small hole next to the screen’s right-hand dial with a sharpened pencil. It’s to the right of the arrow that is to the right of the dial itself. It’s the only thing that worked.

My Content and Privacy Restrictions were off for some reason also. I went under Screen Time in settings and toggled that on.

Yes, exactly! I will share I was able to sort of get Apple CarPlay to work by purchasing a wireless adapter for the vehicle for USB plug-in. I’m not a huge fan, but it works. It’s quirky, but at least the music works and maps, etc. I did notice that you have to press the speaker button on the steering wheel in order for it to un glitch. It’s still goes in and out occasionally, so far I’m getting about 75% of the usage I want.

I accidentally hit the wrong button down voting, not used to this forum. Somebody mentioned turning off vocal shortcuts, which I just did and I will try tomorrow. What I’ve tried is purchasing a wireless adapter that goes into USB to CarPlay. It works, however it’s quirky. Not a great fix rather just have the cord. Wireless adapters there’s a delay altogether. Apple really needs to fix their stuff before they even consider releasing an update, especially when you rely on this heavily. Mapping in music in wireless communication in the vehicle is super important on my end. This is the last time I update my phone before I know all known bugs are fixed!

I went through the same thing with Honda. It is so frustrating, I can empathize with you completely. I also noticed that every time my phone screen either wakes or goes to sleep, listening to music, the music chops and then comes back as well. Back to the CarPlay issue ~ I purchased a wireless adapter on Amazon for 50 bucks 2024 edition that was just recently released. I get about 75% of functionality however it is quirky. I will try and just turn off vocal shortcuts on my phone that somebody mentioned and try it tomorrow and see what happens. I’ll let you guys know.

Hey everyone, I encountered an issue where only the wireless connection wasn’t working, while the cable connection was fine. After multiple attempts to reset and reconnect, I finally found a solution. Make sure the 'Private Wi-Fi Address' setting for the Wi-Fi connection with your car is turned OFF. After the iOS 18 update, in my case, Apple enabled this setting by default, which caused connectivity issues.
