No notification sounds after new iOS 18 update on my iPhone

This happens randomly. Sometimes the sound for a text will work and other times it won’t. I have to to turn my phone off and back on again for the sound notifications to work again. Then later, the sound will stop working again. I have done all the troubleshooting. And that still does nothing. Hopefully Apple is aware of the bug and will create a fix.

I am having to same issue. Since Apple doesn’t monitor these discussions, everyone that is affected, please call Apple support and ask a senior Advisor to open a case. The more of us that report this, the sooner Apple will address the issue.

I am also experiencing lack of notifications on my mail app. I have gone through all notification settings and they are set correctly. This has only happened since ios 18 update which is an important point to make when trying to find a solution. The question is always “what changed since it was last working”. That has been the IT Support and Developer approach since anything ever started breaking.

Can this be sorted or a viable solution provided?

I think most users know about and make use of those settings. But it's not related to any setting. The bug started with the update to iOS 18, ongoing in iOS 18.1. Here I'll get no notification sound or vibration-patterns for new incoming e-mail. I checked all settings multiple times. Only a banner in the notification center comes up, but I can't hear or feel that in my pocket. As I was supporter for Pixel devices, I had options to escalate such bugs to the next level. Are you able to als do so?

Is there any news about fixing this bug?

It is driving me crazy that the Mail app has stopped sending notifications. I miss emails every day that I need to respond to immediately to avoid keeping my partners and clients waiting for important decisions.

The bug appeared immediately after iOS 18 was installed and has still not been fixed in iOS 18.1.1.

Ok! I just got off the text Apple support. Somehow my phone was stuck on “do not disturb” focus, even though I’d never set that focus before, somehow my phone had selected it as the default focus. And because it’s not really clear how to turn them all off when I want them off, I created a focus called “regular” that allows all messages and notifications. Because you can’t delete “do not disturb” and for me that was the default focus.

EChrisW: Like everyone has been saying, the only resolution right now for the lack of notifications for mac mail, is to switch email programs. It sounds like using Gmail app or Outlook is working for most. I just switched to Outlook app earlier this week and I now get all of my sound notifications when I get new emails. Not sure when Apple is going to fix this, they know it's happening, the rep told me it's due to the security of IOS 18. If you use Mac mail and have accounts other than iCloud set up as your email (i.e. gmail, etc.) then you won't get any sound notifications for new emails unless your phone is plugged in with the charger.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

Outlook is the only one I would use, as I was not impressed with Google’s. Unfortunately I have a work profile using Outlook and it doesn’t allow me to keep my private hotmail as an additional account. So the better solution is simply for Apple to be aware and to fix it. Unless someone else has a free email client as good as Outlook.

Thanks for confirming it is an iOS 18 issue!
