No notification sounds after new iOS 18 update on my iPhone

This happens randomly. Sometimes the sound for a text will work and other times it won’t. I have to to turn my phone off and back on again for the sound notifications to work again. Then later, the sound will stop working again. I have done all the troubleshooting. And that still does nothing. Hopefully Apple is aware of the bug and will create a fix.

I had the same issue on my iPhone 14Pro running iOS 18.2. Started after going to iOS 18 as far as I can tell. Thank you to those who responded with their conversation from Apple Support. I triple checked all settings and even tried to create a custom focus to no avail.

The solution that worked was the suggestion to go to Settings>Accessibility>Face ID & Attention, and then turn off Attention Aware Features. This finally solved the problem for me.

Thank you!

EChrisW: Like everyone has been saying, the only resolution right now for the lack of notifications for mac mail, is to switch email programs. It sounds like using Gmail app or Outlook is working for most. I just switched to Outlook app earlier this week and I now get all of my sound notifications when I get new emails. Not sure when Apple is going to fix this, they know it's happening, the rep told me it's due to the security of IOS 18. If you use Mac mail and have accounts other than iCloud set up as your email (i.e. gmail, etc.) then you won't get any sound notifications for new emails unless your phone is plugged in with the charger.

I think most users know about and make use of those settings. But it's not related to any setting. The bug started with the update to iOS 18, ongoing in iOS 18.1. Here I'll get no notification sound or vibration-patterns for new incoming e-mail. I checked all settings multiple times. Only a banner in the notification center comes up, but I can't hear or feel that in my pocket. As I was supporter for Pixel devices, I had options to escalate such bugs to the next level. Are you able to als do so?

When the trend starts after the update that Sir says the update changed a core value somewhere some how that was unintended. Since the problem did occur until after update and its impossible to go back to 17.x to verify the problem then it leave the ios as the culprit. I have tried several of the solutions in this thread none have worked do far. The only one left to try is to set up a focus that is daytime specific. I have the exact same issue on my ipad pro that is running the latest ios as well. Developers are lazy this day and age from game to OS systems its rush to market and we get to be the beta testing team as we report the bugs they attempt to fix it. If i could roll my ios back to 17.x i would in a heartbeat.

I tried this but did not fix mine was kind of hopeful but then again no bt means so connections to the truck, watch and headphones. My sounds are so intermittent that at one point it seemed like the only email that gave sounds was spam lol but then even that stopped. I originally spent about total hrs with middle support help to where they took control of the phone gathered all kinds of data and engineers said yeah are aware of the issue. That was the last i heard from support.

The notifications for messages stopped when I upgraded to 18.3. The notifications for mail stopped when I upgraded to 18.4.2. Push mail stopped working with iOS 18, but just started working again with 18.4.2.

I've tried all the suggestions here that seemed to work for others and none of them work for me.

I absolutely refuse to delete and reinstall apps. That just tells me they don't know how their own software works.

I guess the only option is to "hope" Apple wakes up and fixes this. It's gotten to the point that I rue running any update because I know it will break something that was working just fine.

I am also experiencing lack of notifications on my mail app. I have gone through all notification settings and they are set correctly. This has only happened since ios 18 update which is an important point to make when trying to find a solution. The question is always “what changed since it was last working”. That has been the IT Support and Developer approach since anything ever started breaking.

Can this be sorted or a viable solution provided?

Outlook is the only one I would use, as I was not impressed with Google’s. Unfortunately I have a work profile using Outlook and it doesn’t allow me to keep my private hotmail as an additional account. So the better solution is simply for Apple to be aware and to fix it. Unless someone else has a free email client as good as Outlook.

Thanks for confirming it is an iOS 18 issue!
