My printer is missing the 'Format for' list after macOS Sequoia update

Is anyone else running into printer issues after updating to Sequoia?

In order to print my documents properly, I would always format them for my specific printer. Now my printer doesn't show up on the "Format for" list in either Word or Pages. The printer is installed and I've been able to print some things. However, it isn't allowing me to format for my particular printer anymore. It just gives me "Any printer" as an option. This means my booklets are no longer printing correctly.

Had the same issue but just got it to work fine now! Open System Settings - Privacy & Security - Local Network and enable the app 'rastertoescpII'. There are manu other epson Apps listed there you might want to check too.

I got the lead for fixing it and mode info: https://epson.com.jm/faq/SPT_SEQUOIA-NS~faq-0000b89-macos_15?faq_cat=faq-topFaqs

Hi. I am using EPSON ECOTANK ET-16500, ET-3850 and ET-2400. They all had this problem until I made the changes in Local Network settings. I am not sure for your specific printer model. I actually have 5 APP enabled in Local Network: epsonfax, EPIJAutoSetupTool2, commandtoescp, rastertoescpll & Epson Connect Printer Setup.

I am afraid I can't do more...

Good luck

Re: ESET firewall seems to be allowing printer access now. Update today at 1400 MT to version 8.2.800.0 appears to have fixed the issue. I can now see both Dell and HP printers. Also, HP driver download was successful and reinstall went as expected. Now have printer access, but can't get the scanner to work via the "Easy Scan" application (also updated). It returns the error: "The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.imagecapture error 4294957375.)" This might be something that HP can help with.

Work around is to scan to USB drive, then sneaker net to the Mac. Crude, but getting better!

Apologies I thought I posted earlier but don't see that, and now I have more information which may apply to some of those who have posted printer issues here. I was on with Apple support for a couple of hours after my brand-new MacBook Pro (M4) would not print to my Epson R3000...it just spooled and spooled. A Canon printer worked fine. I tried some of the tips here, I did NOT see any of the "apps" listed in the Local Network pane. I installed a new driver from Epson (issued Oct. 31, 2024 so quite recent). Nothing worked. Apple had me set up a new dummy user account and we found THAT WOULD PRINT OK. But while testing on my own system again after the call, I reinstalled the Epson driver again and it seemed to kill the test account as that would no longer print to the Epson.

Apple and I took a break from each other over the weekend and they were going to call me back today to migrate my data to the test account (which they didn't know yet that I had messed up with the driver re-install). So I was working on it alone this morning when the following came to light:

I was using the "Default" printer setting in the new Print Center. The Default on my system is glossy paper (but this is hidden in a popup menu below). My printer's use of black ink is currently set to Matte Black Ink (not Glossy). So it's the wrong media setting, in my case, under Default. The print dialog SHOULD warn you to this ("wrong paper for your current inkset, dummy"), and I think maybe it did on the previous system (I came from a computer with Monterey on it). Merely adjusting the media setting to plain paper/Matte Ink solved my problem. My clue perhaps should have been that I noticed that when selecting the Epson printer in the Print Center, it does a quick check of the printer supply level which you see with a brief progress bar in the print job window. It is "talking" to the printer there. But then it takes the actual print job and refuses to print with infinite loading (and no warning message).

It could be that I did need to install the updated Epson driver to use Sequoia with this printer, I don't know. And now I do see some of those Epson-related apps switched on in my Local Network pane, but have no idea what they do.

I have been having the same issue of not seeing printers when using print dialogs for my specific printer. I updated my print drivers, deleted and reinstalled printer, quit applications and restarted my Mac to no avail. When I AM able see my printer (as in the screenshot at the top of the thread) to customize print settings for my specific printer, my applications (Adobe products - Illustrator, Acrobat etc. crash when I hit print. Or it will go to the printer and sit in the queue spooling but never print. Same issue from Outlook email, crash on hitting print.

Hope Apple fixes this soon.

The question was asked about my margins - I was attempting to print a 13 x 19” print on an Epson Et-8550 and I just set the margins to .2, all-around, and then dropped my image to that inside LightRoom’s print engine. I believe the issue, for me, was that the paper size (width) as defined in the new driver is not compatible with the printer…..so the paper size I defined was 12.95” wide by 19.02 long - and this was the dimension used by the print driver in Sonoma.

My two cents... upgraded to Sequoia 15.1 yesterday and now my MacBook Air M3 won't recognize my two printers in the office (a Brother and an HP) nor will it recognize my Brother at home (different model). Apple Support on the phone this morning could not solve either. Blamed the printer drivers ( all four????). My iPad Pro M4 works flawlessly while printing. I've tried deleting the office printers but now because 15.1 can't even see them, I am unable to get them back as an available printer on my Air. I have gotten the office HP to print from the MacBook but I have to go through the HP Smart app.

For the love of Pete....

Update to Sequoia 15 didn't seem to cause a problem with printer, however 15.1 seems to have wrecked all my printer access. (HP MFP M277dw and Dell MFP H825 cds). Today's update to 15.1.1 provided no relief.

Like many, no work arounds have produced results. Now running print jobs from iPhone/iPad.

Also... seems overnight wifi is lost and the only fix so far has been a restart.
