Printer issues with Sequoia

Is anyone else running into printer issues after updating to Sequoia?

In order to print my documents properly, I would always format them for my specific printer. Now my printer doesn't show up on the "Format for" list in either Word or Pages. The printer is installed and I've been able to print some things. However, it isn't allowing me to format for my particular printer anymore. It just gives me "Any printer" as an option. This means my booklets are no longer printing correctly.

Had the same issue but just got it to work fine now! Open System Settings - Privacy & Security - Local Network and enable the app 'rastertoescpII'. There are manu other epson Apps listed there you might want to check too.

I got the lead for fixing it and mode info: https://epson.com.jm/faq/SPT_SEQUOIA-NS~faq-0000b89-macos_15?faq_cat=faq-topFaqs

Hi. I am using EPSON ECOTANK ET-16500, ET-3850 and ET-2400. They all had this problem until I made the changes in Local Network settings. I am not sure for your specific printer model. I actually have 5 APP enabled in Local Network: epsonfax, EPIJAutoSetupTool2, commandtoescp, rastertoescpll & Epson Connect Printer Setup.

I am afraid I can't do more...

Good luck

Thanks John for the update. Last three days i have been banging my head trying to reinstall the epson

l3250 printer on a network. It was working fine on sonoma, but after updating to sequoia, mac recognizes the printer. It shows the printer on the network, as idle but the moment i try to print something, it gives communication error. I guess we have to wait for the bug to be fixed.

I have been having the same issue of not seeing printers when using print dialogs for my specific printer. I updated my print drivers, deleted and reinstalled printer, quit applications and restarted my Mac to no avail. When I AM able see my printer (as in the screenshot at the top of the thread) to customize print settings for my specific printer, my applications (Adobe products - Illustrator, Acrobat etc. crash when I hit print. Or it will go to the printer and sit in the queue spooling but never print. Same issue from Outlook email, crash on hitting print.

Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Found a solution that worked for me so sharing if it helps anyone out there. I had this problem with Epson ET-2710 on Wi-Fi not working / Connecting on Sequoia 15.1. Tried a few things on here but they didn't do the trick for me. But thanks anyway!

Somehow I chanced upon this - and staggeringly it worked for me.....

System Settings>General>Sharing>Printer Sharing

Select Sharing ‘On’

Click the info button (i) to see Attached Printers & Users

Select ‘Can Print’ from the relevant Printer drop-down. It wasn't set to 'print' on mine, so I guess that's why it didn't.

Now it does! Sorry if it could be clearer, but hope this helps someone.

Now I see there's a Sequoia update imminent (15.1.1) so maybe that'll have an Apple fix. Computers, eh?

Thank you for your answer and commitment.

I have services with granted access such as: Epson Software Updater, Epson Software Updater Agent, EPIJAutoSetupTool2. I don't have any Epson services in Privacy & Security > Local Network that I could grant access to (situation after upgrading do Sequoia). So in my case the communication error must be caused by something else - related to the Sequoia os version.

Oct 3, 2024 9:16 AM in response to somnath1712

somnath, the communication error is a different issue than the original topic, where printers are not shown in the Page Setup menu - that part is an Apple bug.

The communication error could be the network access problem discussed above? Others here have had varied success. Apple has increased security in several places in Sequoia, so it might be another Epson process/filter that's causing this - and then also needs network access?

Depending on how much you want to investigate, you could enable cups debugging:

in Terminal:

cupsctl --debug-logging

print a job, and then look in the /var/log/cups/error_log file to see if there are any obvious (filter?) errors.

There is also /Utilities/Console. If you open that app and then filter for Epson while printing a job, maybe you'll see something useful?

I don't know if this Epson uses the rastertoescpII filter, but that filter seems to be common to other reports.

Hope this helps.

The question was asked about my margins - I was attempting to print a 13 x 19” print on an Epson Et-8550 and I just set the margins to .2, all-around, and then dropped my image to that inside LightRoom’s print engine. I believe the issue, for me, was that the paper size (width) as defined in the new driver is not compatible with the printer…..so the paper size I defined was 12.95” wide by 19.02 long - and this was the dimension used by the print driver in Sonoma.

For the love of Pete....

Update to Sequoia 15 didn't seem to cause a problem with printer, however 15.1 seems to have wrecked all my printer access. (HP MFP M277dw and Dell MFP H825 cds). Today's update to 15.1.1 provided no relief.

Like many, no work arounds have produced results. Now running print jobs from iPhone/iPad.

Also... seems overnight wifi is lost and the only fix so far has been a restart.

Oct 24th - I had the same issues on MacBookPro 14" M2/32gb, Sequoia 15.0.1 ... running an Epson ET-8550 on driver 13.05 which were

  1. Communication errors
  2. Pages would not print - specifically 13x19

As regards the communications error, I tried re-wiring to ethernet and a few other things - but the aforementioned change in Privacy and Security to enable rastertoescpII did seem to fix this. I'm still on wired, but will likely go back to WiFi this afternoon. I enabled all the Epson related controls in the Privacy section.

I also updated the Epson driver to 13.26 (from 13.05) which I finally was able to locate on the Epson site.

I still cannot see any other printer name in the printer selection drop-down list for defining paper sizes than "Any Printer" - despite being on Sequoia 15.0.1 and Epson driver 13.26

Now some background on the other issue this to see if you are having the same problem.....

The the bigger issue ... I was using Lightroom Print templates from Sonoma to print on 13x19 sheets on Sequoia and what would happen is that the job would start, the Mac Print Center would display and the spinner would indicate the job was printing - the printer would make various grinding sounds and then it would cease; the Print Center and the printer showed the job as completed - but nothing printed. I could make it work on smaller sizes like 8.5x11, and Tabloid 11x17. I would set the job up on, say, 11x17 and print a test copy and then simply change the page size to 13x19 - and the above would happen. Sometimes LrC would crash out.

I then setup the same situation on my MacStudio running Sonoma - and the key difference I found was the definition of 13x19 paper had changed in the driver or within Apple's database. On Sonoma the paper size options in the size dropdown shows as "Super B (13x19) 12.95x19.02" and this is missing in Sequoia - which shows "Super B/A3 13.00x19.00 inches". That's different - so in Sequoia I defined a manual paper size with the width set to 12.95 and the length 19.02, and with internal margins of .2. I printed with that and it worked first time - so the width of the paper set in Sequoia at 13 maybe 0.5" too wide and the printer driver (or printer) is dumping it.

Can anybody else confirm this ?

jc - MacBookPro: Sequoia; MacStudio Sonoma. Epson ET-8550 current driver 13.26
