Macos Sequoia 15.0 and office 365 - not responding

Since installing macOS Sequoia (15.0), I've had a problem when I open a Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint file with Office 365 (latest version 16.89). The application doesn't respond. I have to force it to quit and open again: MS Word opened the file correctly. I've reinstalled Office several times, but the problem persists. In general, I can open one file, then application not responding.

Mac Studio, macOS 14.7

Dear all

I try all I reinstalled my brand new MacBook Pro m4 max 2 times and it came again that excel, powerpoint and outlook some times freeze.

Then I did this what helped me so far and it works now all fine:

2. Reset Launch Services:

• Open Terminal and execute the following commands to reset Launch Services, which can resolve application association issues:

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network

killall Dock

3. Clear Office Font Cache:

• Corrupted font caches can cause Office applications to hang. To clear the font cache:

• Open Terminal.

• Navigate to the Office font cache directory:

cd ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/

• Remove the font cache:

rm -fr FontCache

• Restart the Office application.

4. Delete Notification Temp Folder:

• If you’ve updated to macOS 15.1 and are experiencing issues with applications hanging, deleting the notification temp folder may help:

• Navigate to the following directory:

~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.UserNotifications/Library/UserNotifications/Remote/default

• Delete all contents within this folder.

I hope it helps someone else as it worked for me. Not sure when I need to re do it again hope Microsoft Apple will fix that issue soon.

Cheers all

How I Fixed It

Since upgrading to macOS Sequoia (15.0.1), I’ve been facing issues with Microsoft Office 365 (version 16.89). Every time I tried opening a Word, Excel, the application wouldn’t respond, forcing me to quit and restart it. After reinstalling Office multiple times without any luck, I finally found a solution: resetting macOS to factory settings.

To fix the issue, I went to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset, and did a full reset. After that, Office 365 began working as expected, allowing me to open and work on files without freezing.

This process solved the problem for me, so if anyone else is facing similar issues, it might be worth a try!
