Macos Sequoia 15.0 and office 365 - not responding

Since installing macOS Sequoia (15.0), I've had a problem when I open a Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint file with Office 365 (latest version 16.89). The application doesn't respond. I have to force it to quit and open again: MS Word opened the file correctly. I've reinstalled Office several times, but the problem persists. In general, I can open one file, then application not responding.

Mac Studio, macOS 14.7

Thank you for this. I tried to do "open with" and did indeed see that "recommended apps" was the option. I changed that to "all apps" and opened the app. I was hopeful that this would magically address my problem too which is not actually opening files but saving a copy (and saving new files as well), but, alas, it did not.

Please keep the suggestions coming folks. This is a horrible experience for everyone - and I just got my first Mac in decades right before the update, not a good way to start a renewed relationship. ugh

Hello Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well.

As not everyone seems to be experiencing these issues, I’m wondering if it could be related to specific security settings in Exchange, Office 365, or other company-specific configurations.

I’ve tested various solutions — updating, reinstalling, and troubleshooting extensively — but I always end up at the same problem: Excel, PowerPoint, or even Outlook suddenly stop working.

On top of that, I’m also facing similar issues with Adobe Creative Cloud on macOS 15.2, where some apps freeze or crash unexpectedly.

Has anyone else encountered these problems? Could it be that macOS 15.2 is one of the more problematic versions from Apple?

Also, if anyone has found a good repair tool or workaround to fix these issues, I’d love to hear about it. A reliable repair tool that could address these bugs would be extremely helpful.

Looking forward to your suggestions and insights!

Thx for any help

@microsoft you are welcome to fix the issue :)
