Camera app crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

Also having this issue - have checked for updates and force restarted several times. It only fixes it temporarily and then it continues to crash any time I open it, whether it's using the wake button, the lock screen icon, or opening the app while the phone is unlocked. In general, the phone seems incredibly sluggish, I noticed this especially during one instance where the camera app did open, but started clicking as if I'd pressed the button multiple times and it was catching up

I am experiencing the same issue with 16 Pro. Just got it 3 days ago and first two days I wasn't faced with the issue and it started today from pressing the new Camera button on the locked screen. Since then I have not been able to use the camera anymore (even from other apps, camera mode crashes some apps as well).

i have 16pro max…So I’ve been having the same issue. Camera shuts off and battery changes percentage mid way from 38% to 1%. I went to apple they trouble shooted it and they swapped me out another phone. It seemed to work but today I went to take a picture and it crashed again. I spent over 3 hours in the store and this “new” phone is having the same issues!! What else can be done?!?

I just purchased the iPhone 16 ProMax and I have experienced the same issues: the camera crashed and the screen turned black, when trying to take a picture using the side button. So dissatisfied. I returned the phone today, and will not buy it again. I have the iPhone 15 ProMax, it works fine. So much excitement and show off for a phone that does not work, and almost $2000 for the 1 TB phone.

Here in Hungary we also have a problem. Camera app is opened or black screen appears and exits the application or exits immediately and cannot be used for the camera. Restart solves the problem but only temporarily.

I experience the same issue, Apple already changed my previous iPhone 16. (after 4 days of use) to a new iPhone 16 Pro , I experience he same issue with the second phone. IOS update 18.01 was not resolving the issue. Please solve the problem, otherwise I am forced to return this device too. Device doesn't worth too much without a working camera, it’s shameful Apple could sell such bad quality phones. Next time I will just simple report the company to Department of consumer Affairs . Sorry Apple but for $1200 you need to do better.

I was hoping the upgrade to 18.0.1 would fix my camera crashing issue, but it has not. I'm on iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS v18.0.1

I upgraded to this new iPhone and had transferred everything from my prwvious iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iOS 18.0.1 has not resolved the camera crashing issue in my iPhone 16 Pro Max 512 Gb. The camera crashes on any mode for me not just macro mode as mentioned in the iOS 18.0.1 fix release notes. Camera crashes - screen turns black - battery goes to 1% and iPhone hangs for a few seconds and recovers ... same cycle repeats ... camera app is unusable ... really hope this gets resolved quickly ...

I was hopeful the update had fixed it but mine just crashed again 🤦🏼‍♀️ Commenting so Apple can see that so many are having this issue. I, too, had diagnostics run by them and the hardware was fine.

Agreed! I am noticing this issue to have worsened and now with overheating on my phone. I haven’t restarted the phone to see how long the battery lasts, as I believe this may be a combination of hardware and software issues, although apple support continues to claim it’s not a hardware issue.

Same here but it crashes when I take a picture however I start the camera app. As has been reported a restart temporarily fixes the problem. I called Apple support but my call was "accidentally" dropped by a confused representative. I guess we'll just have to wait for Apple to fix the issue. Hopefully it's a software problem and not the hardware.

My wife's iPhone 16 Pro is having the same problem. Hard reset only fixed it temporarily. I thought it was a hardware issue until I googled it and finding the problem widespread. My iPhone 16 Pro is not having the issue. Both on 18.0.1.,

SAME PROBLEM. Can’t even take a picture after the new iOS 18.01 update. Honestly I feel like it’s worse now. Camera crashes, screen goes back and unresponsive, IF the screen comes back on the battery percentage goes to 1% and then my phone becomes hot and slow. This is ridiculous

iPhone 16 Pro Max photo taking app still crashing and also when you want to include a photo in text it also crashes and turns to black screen, forcing you to reboot the phone multiple times even after updating to the new 18.0.1 update

After updating to 18.0.1 I thought my crashing might have been fixed. 18.0.1 does NOT fix this. Camera had been working faultlessly since the update, but again at a moment when I want to take a photo it crashes. App opens fine, press the shutter, screen goes black with a red dot in Dynamic Island and then the app crashes back to desktop. That then persists until I restart with vol up, down , power cycle. My opinion of apple is changing rapidly.
