Having issue on my iPhone 16 pro max 512 gb when launching camera control from Lock Screen it’s crashing the camera app. Screen turns black and crashing. Also phone seems to be getting abnormally hot when playing games or recoding video for a short period of time. Anyone else experiencing these issues and wondering if it’s a software or hardware issue.

Worked with Apple Support. We tried reapplying the latest upgrade via my Mac and the phone in restore mode. Problem persisted a couple days later. I was advised the next step was to completely wipe the phone and reinstall everything from scratch, not from backup, as the culprit is likely somewhere in my backup. I did that over the weekend, took about 8 hours. It's been two days without the issue returning. I will continue to monitor.
I am STILL having this issue, a month after the phone has been out. When contacting apple and Verizon I was told it’s a software issue that would be fixed with 18.0.1. That did NOT solve the issue. What is going on? Do I have a defective phone? Anyone else still having these issues?

What happened when you updated your phone to iOS 18.1, which was released Monday and many many have come back here to say it fixed their camera issues?
iPhone 16 pro 512 same issue. I also notice that FaceID doesn’t work when trying to unlock the phone, once the camera has failed to the black screen when using Lock Screen access. I take this to mean that the front facing camera is down at that time too. Usually once I unlock using the passcode and then open the camera app through the control center, it works. Compared to others on here, I guess that’s pretty good.
The force reset works but only for a little and the the camera starts crashing again. It’s a very temporary fix. I’ve been doing this two or three times a day.
16 pro max. Camera app crashes every time I open it. Restart fixes for a few mins only. Apple support didn’t find any hardware issues.
Exactly facing the same issue along with freezing screen..every time have to force restart for temporary fix..hope it should get fixed with next iOS release
Same here. 18.0.1 DID NOT fix the issue.
other apps freezing as well. Seems to be lagging all the time. Multiple restarts.
I have the same issue. This is so annoying! I need to restart my device every time I launch the Camera app. Even phone call is an issue as well. I was not audible until I restart the device.
18.1 official release will fix the problem. I've upgraded to 18.1b7 and had no issues since. Everything been rock solid and working as intended.
Same issue. Apple even said my device was faulty and replaced it. Two days later same issue
18.1 installed. Have been playing with the camera and so far no crashes. Early days I know, but will report back if anything changes.
