Camera app crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

I am experiencing the same issue. The restart only temporarily fixes the problem. I have been troubleshooting this with Apple support the last few days and it is escalated the engineers. Hope they get this fixed soon. It is very annoying. Seems to happen at the worst times.

I hate my iPhone 16 pro it’s so hard to use I wish I would’ve kept my 12 - the iOS update sucks. I hate the camera roll and new camera functions are confusing. Touch screen is sensitive in bottom corners when you’re holding it normally it picks up on your palm in bottom corner instead of fingers where you’re trying to press. Also keeps playing sound once I lock my phone (on tiktok for example) even when I’m not playing a video or it was paused when I lock the phone.

I am experiencing the same issue with a host of other issues. My touchscreen freezes where I can't get anything to work. I have to restart my iPhone at least seven times a day because the voice to text stops working. And the battery life is worse than my iPhone 15 Pro Max that I had for a year. This is disappointing. I've had every model of iPhone since the first one came out.

👉🏻 I thought I was the only one with this problem. Using the camera control to wake up the phone and to take a picture (either by using the camera control or using the touch screen button), crashes the camera app (turns black).

I force restart every night (and have been for years with all my iPhones). This does not fix this issue. I’ve missed quite a few captures because of this. I am not happy. 😡

Having the exact same issue. Camera app cassettes and sometimes locks up the entire phone. It’s crazy and unacceptable that Apple lets this kind of stuff out the door. Also, battery is way worse than previous Pro Max models. Gets super hot when using the camera app (when working) and applying styles to the photo. What the ****? Oh and this strange thing happened when trying to view a photo.

I’m getting really frustrated being unable to be sure I can take a photo outdoors. Camera keeps shutting down or turning black. Phone gets really hot. If I shut down and restart it seems to work for a couple of pictures. But the next time I want to take a photo - I’m back to the black screen or shut down! This is atrocious and unacceptable.

I’m quite disappointed, as I was certain that Apple thoroughly tests its devices before launching them to the market—something at least Samsung seems to do. Unfortunately, this device, despite its high price, has been released with numerous bugs.

Apple, your development team needs to address these issues promptly.

Really disappointed with my 16 pro 256GB Camera not working crashing cannot even able To take one picture i was not expecting this from Apple in this thread more than 50 ppl have the same problem so what is next? Any official reply? Any update how long it will be sort? Really sad 👎🏿

Has anyone found a solution to this or been guided by apple on a work around? I have already returned my device that I picked up on launch day for a replacement. Transferred all my data and info to the new phone..within 24 hours the brand new replacement was having the exact same issue. We know it is not the devices issue and now my previous iphone has since been returned and I am stuck with a defective, buggy, $1300 broken camera. I cannot keep restarting my phone 12 times a day to make this work and am not willing to wipe everything to 0 and start from scratch to test it that way. Any one have any leads?

I am also facing the exact issue. Camera app keeps crashing for both photos and videos. Works for sometime after phone restart and then goes back to crashing and while it works, it isn't as fast.

This is so irritating. I was at a wedding event and I missed so many shots because of this. Unacceptable! Especially at this huge price point!

In addition to the camera issue, the battery life is also inferior to my 13 pro max that I had before I switched to 16 pro max.

Also, intermittently it will show me that I have 1% battery left all of a sudden, then it will jump back to the correct battery %age.

I’m dealing with the same issue. iPhone 16 pro.

I’ve missed so many moments due to the camera freezing, stuttering, delaying the capture or completely crashing altogether. I am currently doing a diagnostic session for 24 hours with Apple. Hoping they are able to pinpoint the issue and that they have a solution.

I am tired of turning my phone on and off 29 times a day.

Today, while trying to take a video with my iPhone 16 Pro Max at the beach, the camera automatically turned off after 10 seconds and started to heat up my phone. I suspect this is a problem with the phone itself.

Same issues on my iPhone 16 pro. Camera crashes with black screen that only is fixed temporarily with a reboot. And one day my phone seemed nearly hot enough to burn me. I hope they come out with a fix very soon. It’s so frustrating!

My iPhone 16 pro 256 Gb crashes from side button, from camera icon, with locked screen or not. Crashes everyday, all the time. I have to reboot to use for awhile, and then next time, crashes again. It’s so frustrating.

Be careful between what people are calling a "forced reset". There's also a "forced restart". There is a huge difference, as a forced restart is non-destructive and does *not* solve the camera problem.
