Camera app crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

Me too, on my second iPhone 16 in the past 2 weeks and both have had this issue! I have a toddler and I have to be very fast to capture photos of her and 99% of the time I’m not getting them. Sold a perfectly good iPhone 13 that was better than this and the battery is rubbish.

I have the same issue camera crashes on opening app and also when you try to take a picture in text it crashes as well. Turns to black screen I have to turn the phone on and off for it to function again.

Updated my iPhone 16 pro max 512 gb to 18.0.1 yesterday. Issue still not resolved by this update. What's going on at Apple QC. Camera crashes - screen turns black - iPhone hangs for a few seconds. Repeat ... Camera app is unusable. Hardware issue in these models ??

I have the same problem, nothing changed after the 18.0.1 update, I think after the update this problem will be fixed but no! I informed them earlier, they did a diagnostic and told me that there is no problem with the hardware, they told me to wait for the upgrade, I hope they replace it for me

Ufff Yes--- Same here. Also notice if i try to toggle to the camera from Whatsapp if on a call (to share a pic) it Drops My Call! Irritating! If they "fix" it, will it automatically show up as an update? Apple! Get on this :-)

Same here. I reported this on the Support app and the response was an underwhelming… did you try restarting your iPhone. 🙄

Then they asked me to run the diagnostic and afterward advised no problem with my phone.

so I guess they are in denial rather than saying wait for the update.

I would prefer they just said, this is a known issue and will be resolved.

I got thru to Apple Support and the best they offered was that I totally reset the phone. Based on the experiences in this thread I decided not to do that because it seems to be a waste of time.

This is just so un-Apple of them. And to not even acknowledge that it's an issue. Mind boggling.

This is really disappointing experience. Apple literally doesn’t have any solution. They are just providing some bot steps to fix which is not helping and customer support is extremely incompetent. No point spending this much money for 16 pro max.

One of your contributors stated they worked with APPLE and APPLE advised them to wipe the phone and then reinstall the new update. I’m not about to do that. I have too much stuff on the phone. It takes me hours to get all the email passwords back and to get the apps and passcodes back in the phone, it took me four hours to set up this phone that is not a solution

Well what is the point of a backup if the backup can fail or be corrupt in such a way as to cause such an issue. The last thing we should be requested to do is to wipe a device and set up from scratch. Sorry Apple, this is a totally unacceptable response to a problem affecting a lot of iPhone 16 devices across the range. It might prove a point, but is definitely not a solution.

To those suggesting wiping the phone and not restoring from a backup - this is just foolish. Hours and hours of work. It is clearly a software bug and needs to get noticed far and wide so Apple acknowledges it. Email the Mac sites.

Once again, I am very sorry I upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. I had an iPhone 14 Pro Max. It was flawless no problems. Great pictures but no I wanted this one. I usually jump every two phones to update to the newest product. They shouldn’t call us the iPhone they should call it the Y iPhone why I spent so much money to upgrade LOL

I’m confident that a fix to the camera crash issue is getting close. The Administrators deleted my previous post as I inadvertently made reference to a forbidden subject. So hopefully I’ll be permitted to say that my phone’s camera app has been working flawlessly for two days and I’d expect a permanent fix around October 28th. I have repeatedly tried the camera and have had no problems. This is not what I was experiencing before so I am optimistic.

Still happening for me, this and many other things even after 18.0.1. Phone gets progressively less usable until a reset, then acts fine for half a day or so. I have been approved for replacement, but it’s been a week and no shipment of the replacement yet. It will likely be the last pre-order for me. This has been a real pain.

Summary - As per Apple Support ... Do a clean install from recovery mode of iOS 18.0.1 from your Mac or PC and set it up as new iPhone. DO NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP.

Raj Khurana, do not recommend this. People will waste hours and hours on this. It is a software problem and will be fixed soon.
