Camera app crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

Also had the same issue since day one of the iPhone 16 pro, multiple times a day with only temporary resolution to restart the phone. Spoke with apple support on 9/282024 who ran diagnostics and said there was no issue. Advised me to reset all settings.

when I first searched this on 9/20/2024, issue wasn’t posted. Clearly seems like an Apple issue. Will be returning phone to swap out for a new one!

Today, while trying to take a video with my iPhone 16 Pro Max at the beach, the camera automatically turned off after 10 seconds and started to heat up my phone. I suspect this is a problem with the phone itself.

I have the same issue. Very annoying. Ive seen an answer that it was escalated to the engineers.

I also installed a third party photo app that works without any issues. For now. The one I am using is Photo pro. I do not know if any other out there work.

At least for now.

I hope they find the issue and fix it because is really annoying

My iPhone 16 pro 256 Gb crashes from side button, from camera icon, with locked screen or not. Crashes everyday, all the time. I have to reboot to use for awhile, and then next time, crashes again. It’s so frustrating.

Be careful between what people are calling a "forced reset". There's also a "forced restart". There is a huge difference, as a forced restart is non-destructive and does *not* solve the camera problem.

I am having the same camera issue with my 16 Pro like all the others who

I’ve had one phone exchanged only to get another with the same issue. The

Genius Bar has wiped my phone and did a complete fresh IOS install and I

reloaded my apps one at a time. Same problem.

I’ve been on the phone and sent several diagnostic logs to Apple

Support.

No resolution yet other than an email stating Apple Engineering is aware of

the problem.

I have a theory, which on one test has seemed to show some promise. I’ve been using a case with “precise” cutouts for each lens and sensor on the camera. I think that something about the way the case is designed may be interfering with the camera’s sensor and causing this crash loop. I started to have the issue once again a little while ago, and so I removed my case and tried again to launch the camera all using the side button. Voila. It worked fine. Curious if anyone else with this issue has a case with the individual lens cutouts instead of one big square?

Me too, on my second iPhone 16 in the past 2 weeks and both have had this issue! I have a toddler and I have to be very fast to capture photos of her and 99% of the time I’m not getting them. Sold a perfectly good iPhone 13 that was better than this and the battery is rubbish.

I have the same issue camera crashes on opening app and also when you try to take a picture in text it crashes as well. Turns to black screen I have to turn the phone on and off for it to function again.

Did you update to iOS 18.0.1, which was released today?

Here in Hungary we also have a problem. Camera app is opened or black screen appears and exits the application or exits immediately and cannot be used for the camera. Restart solves the problem but only temporarily.

Updated my iPhone 16 pro max 512 gb to 18.0.1 yesterday. Issue still not resolved by this update. What's going on at Apple QC. Camera crashes - screen turns black - iPhone hangs for a few seconds. Repeat ... Camera app is unusable. Hardware issue in these models ??

I was hoping the upgrade to 18.0.1 would fix my camera crashing issue, but it has not. I'm on iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS v18.0.1

I upgraded to this new iPhone and had transferred everything from my prwvious iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I have the same problem, nothing changed after the 18.0.1 update, I think after the update this problem will be fixed but no! I informed them earlier, they did a diagnostic and told me that there is no problem with the hardware, they told me to wait for the upgrade, I hope they replace it for me

Same here. I got the ProMax 16 less than a week ago and have had trouble with the camera crashing and talk to text becoming unresponsive. Restarting has fixed both so far...but really!!!! Fourth iPhone and have never posted here, but came specifically to support those who already called Apple out on this.
