Having issue on my iPhone 16 pro max 512 gb when launching camera control from Lock Screen it’s crashing the camera app. Screen turns black and crashing. Also phone seems to be getting abnormally hot when playing games or recoding video for a short period of time. Anyone else experiencing these issues and wondering if it’s a software or hardware issue.

Worked with Apple Support. We tried reapplying the latest upgrade via my Mac and the phone in restore mode. Problem persisted a couple days later. I was advised the next step was to completely wipe the phone and reinstall everything from scratch, not from backup, as the culprit is likely somewhere in my backup. I did that over the weekend, took about 8 hours. It's been two days without the issue returning. I will continue to monitor.
This problem is solved now. One thing I noticed was it seems to be more common to users that restored from old backups. So after a while I started noticing the problem didn’t occurred even before the upgrade to 18.1 and then when I finally did the upgrade it never occurred again so I would advise everyone to just do the upgrade and flag it as a defect if it occurs in any case; which I don’t think it’s will
The easiest way to reproduce this issue is to start the camera by sliding the edge on the Lock Screen.
happens every time and only fix is a full restart.
I have the same issue with my 16 Pro Max. Restarting my phone was a temporary fix. Hopefully, Apple is working on a fix soon
Having the same problem with my 1 week old 16 pro. Hard reboot fixes it for some time and then it happens again. Frustrating and unacceptable for the device that costs this much...
My wife turned off reduce motion and the problem got better or maybe went away. For me it was already turned off and I haven't had the problem. Perhaps a temporary fix, perhaps not.
I have 16 pro and also having the same problem. Rebooting the phone fixes the problem temporarily.
Try turning off sound recognition. Seems to help.
IOS 18.0.1 did NOT solve the camera crashing issue for me. Each day issue is popping up, only solution is to restart the phone.
I had a mag wallet on my phone (not apple) took it off and I think it fixed the camera problem. Still have lots of other issues though. Lots of apps crashing. I have plenty of storage on my phone…

Mine does too I took it to a Apple Store and they gave me a new replacement but I’m guessing it’s a software issue because this new one also does it I hope they address the issue and fix it considering that there main selling point is the new camera button
I have the iPhone 16 Pro and when I turn it on the camera turns off immediately and the iPhone stays locked for seconds, to temporarily solve this problem I always have to turn the iPhone off and on again and the problem is solved for a few hours but then the problem comes back again
I have the same issue. Very annoying. Ive seen an answer that it was escalated to the engineers.
I also installed a third party photo app that works without any issues. For now. The one I am using is Photo pro. I do not know if any other out there work.
At least for now.
I hope they find the issue and fix it because is really annoying
