Are there any known issues with the iOS 18 Update?

I have an iPhone 13 Pro. I’m running 17.7. Are there issues with iOS 18 that might delay updating? Should I wait until a patch comes out or is it safe now? My biggest concern is the handset hearing up and battery drain.

iOS 18 is generally stable, but as with most major iOS updates, early versions can have bugs that get patched in subsequent releases. Some users have reported issues such as increased battery drain and occasional overheating with iOS 18, which is common after big updates as the system re-indexes files and apps optimize themselves for the new software.

If your primary concerns are heating and battery life, it might be worth waiting for at least one or two minor updates (such as 18.0.1 or 18.1), which typically address these early issues. However, if you’re eager to update and willing to monitor battery performance and app behavior closely, it should be safe to install now, keeping in mind you might need to tweak some settings (like background app refresh or location services) to conserve battery.

It seems to me that every Apple update downgrades the device and releases a barrage of issues that are impossible to get rid of. The battery drain makes me think of viruses, hackers and spyware, in this case probably them sticking their noses into our privacy. Then, when we reach out to support, their invariable response is always: 1) can you do this on your phone/device? Did you go through a reset (more problems, more loss), did you turn off and on? and all the usual idiocies to wash their hands of their appalling service and dump the blame on our side; 2) where do you live? (check postcode, next predictable sentence is ->) your nearest Apple certified store is bla bla bla (usually several cities away from you and involving an hefty payment for something that’s not there because the problem came from them.. as usual); do they reimburse you? No. Do they offer you the right fix and recovery of your losses? No. Do they admit to being wrong? Never. I gave up on contacting support and rather go with a faulty product that is still better than the non-solutions for the devices non-issues when the fault lays with their updates and at their door.

Downloading emails is now far slower and sometimes impossible. So frustrating.

i used to be able to minimise an existing text and then quickly scroll down other recent text exchanges with that recipient to check or say copy something - but now if my new text under construction is say 2/3 of the screen, I can only ever have 1/3 of screen to do that checking back on previous texts. Quite irritating that a problem that didn’t used to exist has been ‘added’ to this latest IOS.

100% agree with how poor apple support has become
when I reported 3 issues after installing iOS 18 the support person asked me
“What you have you done to try and fix it”

Apples update caused these issues so why ask customers that question ?

It's one of the most basic support questions and has been for years. They ask you that question to save everyone time. They don't want to waste your time or theirs suggesting things you've already tried.

Same issue, and no VPN. If I reset network settings, WiFi will work for a few minutes, then it stops. It stays connected, and I can see occasional LAN and WAN up and down traffic from my iPhone's IP address (on the AP and router, respectively), but the iPhone indicates no internet service, can't pick-up eMail, can't browse, and can't even ping the AP it's connected to. The fact that I can see traffic on the WAN and LAN suggests to me that the incoming traffic (to the iPhone) is somehow getting blocked at the iPhone.

Why does someone from Apple Support not chime in to offer support and recommendations? Clearly there are a large number of Apple users seeking solutions.

As noted, this is a user-to-user forum. Apple's participation is largely limited to making sure we all obey the rules. The only time anyone from Apple posts is if it's a health/safety issue and then only to provide the appropriate contact information.

If you want to discuss this with Apple, you can use the Support link at the bottom left of every page of this forum.

I’m having problems connecting to my WiFi since the update to 18.1?by phone and iPad. I can no longer just tap it on, I have to find it then add it each time. The settings re-configuration is a right pain as well as you need to scroll down then scroll down again in you want to take cookies off safari (my finger is getting quite sore now) Definitely wouldn’t recommend iPhone anymore 😏.
