After upgrading to iOS 18, CarPlay is crashing randomly

UPDATE So I did everything recommended in this thread and nothing worked. The only solution that worked was to go to my Mazda dealer and have them update the Mazda Connect software. I just did it today. Cost me $87.50 😐 but now the problem is fixed. I can now text or do any voice commands without it crashing.

Fixed my issue. After upgrading to ios 18 my car play was not working correctly. I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee which uses uconnect to control my entertainment center. Car play ios 18 was muting my volume and acting funny on phone calls. I contacted apple care 3 different times. Each time I spoke with 2sd level supervisors. We worked through all the logical settings with no luck.

I googled the issue and found one person who discovered that you should try turning off "Vocal Shortcuts." I had set up a couple vocal shortcuts I deleted them and turned vs off. Worked for me. Go to settings-accessibility scroll down to Vocal Shortcuts and turn off. I also deleted car play from my phone and my Jeep and reinstalled just to make sure. Resolved my issues. Hope this helps.

I too had this problem in my brand new 2024 Nissan Xtrail. I checked all my of settings on my phone to ensure Apple didn’t disable CarPlay functions. That did nothing for it and all settings were fine on my phone.

I then factory reset my car stereo and this fixed my issue completely!!

if you guys haven’t tried resetting your car systems to factory settings, maybe try that and see if that works for you guys? Good luck!! It was so annoying not having CarPlay functions, I cried and was so anxious until I had it fixed as I am hopeless without maps to a place I have never been before! 😅😂

Yep, my dealer said the same thing. However, like I’ve said in this thread, I tried every fix I knew from updating the iPhone OS, to making sure I had an Apple OEM cable, to shutting off certain settings on the iPhone, nothing worked except updating the cars Mazda connect software.

I had the same issue on my Sync3 after upgrading to iOs 18.2.1. Here below how got fixed.

Settings > Screen time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps & Features > toggle ON CarPlay option. After restarting the iPhone CarPlay got back to work.

Have you done the basics? Checked to see if your car headunit has an update? Turned off VPN on your device if you have one (it is a known issue that has existed before iOS 18 for some users)? Restarted your device? Contacted Apple directly for support (via chat/text/phone)? Whatever may be going on for you and some others it’s not a universal issue affecting all CarPlay users but would still need to at minimum be reported to Apple in case there is a bug that they can address. I personally have had no issues with iOS 18 and CarPlay (wired or wireless) in any of our household vehicles with the new iPhones or with older iPhones updated to iOS 18

I did a factory reset in my infotainment system in my car and after that it works.

If your own a Mazda, and you’ve tried everything in this thread and nothing has worked, then go to your Mazda dealership and ask them to update the Mazda Connect software. That’s the only thing that fixed it for myself and my wife’s cars. Works perfect now. 🙂

Tried ALL the advice on fed YouTube, here, realist etc. finally did this simple step. All working great again. If you have iOS 18 turn off the vocal shortcuts. Simple as that. Hours wasted! Almost switched to android over this. Thx!!!!

Resetting will not fix it. I tried. You need to go to a Mazda dealership and have them update the Mazda Connect software.

I had the Car Play issue after updating to IOS 18. The latest update - 18.3 - fixed it!

If your own a Mazda, and you’ve tried everything in this thread and nothing has worked, then go to your Mazda dealership and ask them to update the Mazda Connect software. That’s the only thing that fixed it for myself and my wife’s cars. Works perfect now. 🙂
