Vertical band on Macbook Pro 14 (2023) display leading to complete corruption of display

I am facing what seems to be an increasing popular issue. Though most of it is confined to new iMacs, I am facing the same issue on my 2023 M2 Pro MacBook Pro 14, and there is absolutely no reason why this won't happen to your new MacBook as well as Apple has not resolved this issue and refuses to speak about it.

A few days after the one year warranty runs out, a vertical grey band appears on the right side of the display which seems to pulse along the refresh rate (pulses faster at 120 Hz when using mouse, and slower and more prominently at 60 Hz when screen is static).

I have used my MacBook mostly connected by a USB C cable to an external monitor, with a few occasions where I have taken it to my office as well. Absolutely no rough handling, always kept inside a well padded bag, no air travel, no public transport ever. In fact, there is not a single scratch on my laptop and I have taken good care of it.

I called Apple Support and explained the issue. They suggested me to get it checked by the nearest authorised Apple Service Centre. I got it examined and even the report officially says that "there is a grey bar that appeared on the screen and no rough handling to suggest as the cause", and requires a replacement of the display assembly which costs an arm and a leg. The support handler also said that since the device was out of warranty, he could not help.

And now look how the display got corrupted to a point where I can no longer work on this! I mean, c'mon...

This problem has infuriated me so much and I have no idea what to do!

There are so many people pointing out these issues with newer Macs and Apple seems to be doing nothing about it. They should accept the mistake, offer free service and rectify the mistake for future computers because that's the right thing to do.

I got this laptop absolutely stretching my budget trusting Apple quality. I thought if I spent this much money, there should be no ownership anxiety but I am absolutely galled at all this unpleasantness. Presently, this laptop is a desktop connected to an external monitor which works fine. I won't give Apple a single penny more in case the display even fails completely. Once it fails (which looks almost certain), I will just get a generic HP or Dell or Lenovo or something which should last 10 years reliably. What a joke!

For hardware issues take it in if you want it repaired.
