Bank balance widget not available on my iPhone 13 Pro Max after iOS 18 update

on iOS 17 and older, I was able to see my bank checking and savings balance on a widget. Now with 18 it's now gone. I've searched on how to get it back with no luck. I cant remember how I privously added it.

I had the same problem as many of you, This was the response I just received from my bank. It’s not a solution but I hope it’s helpful.

From Bank:

I am sorry to hear that the St George Bank Widget disappearing after updating your iPhone to IOS18 has been a poor experience for you.

Customers who have a quick balance widget set up and upgrade to iOS18, no longer have access to their widgets as the widgets are not retained upon upgrade to the new iOS.

Customers who have upgraded to iOS18 and wish to create a widget, do not have the ability to do so.

Unfortunately the quick balance widget is not supported for customers using iOS18 nor is there a workaround to reinstate customers existing balance widgets.

Customers can still access quick balance as an alternative option via the bank mobile banking app.

We acknowledge that this outcome isn't what you were seeking, and I apologise that we aren't able to accommodate your request.

its not that simple as blaming someone other than Apple. The widgets worked before Apple changed something and now they don’t. Apple have made changes many times to make their own product offerings more enticing and easier to use than others. And for all the hype about usability of iPhones, they still can’t tell you that the feature you’re looking for has been moved somewhere else in the interface or even removed completely. Which explains why these forums are so full of posts. And since apple don’t pay the posters here, shows you how much they care about your user experience.

Well to be fair…the developers for the app are responsible for updating their apps to continue to work with new iOS versions. This is going to be true even if it wasn’t Apple….if you as a 3rd party developer want your app/widgets to work with with the OS/iOS of any given device you have to ensure that you continue to update to continue working with the most recent update.

And as far as changes in the iOS….name an OS that NEVER changes their layout/features/looks. You can’t. If they never changed anything people would complain that it’s boring and they never offer anything new or exciting or innovative (or whatever other word you want to plug in). Complaints for things like change are typically by those that don’t like change and feel like if it isn’t exactly like you were used to it is terrible. Example would be the photos app changes…people that complained about things not being where they are used to and claimed it was unusable (which it is not unusable. It’s just different than what we were used to before. You can absolutely customize how it appears, you still have access to every action you had before iOS 18, it is in fact still usable. I say this not loving or hating the new version of the app. I just didn’t get over dramatic about having to adapt to the new version).

This is a user community….why in the world would any of use be paid to post here? The vast majority of us are not Apple employees and only assist using the info that is actually readily available to everyone…the online manuals, the online support articles, internet searches associated with the question asked…all things that anyone can do but many don’t want to search and just want someone to give them the answer so they don’t have to bother finding it themselves. The paid employees would be those that actually work in the customer service teams and various departments that you contact directly via the Support App, phone call, text or physically going to the Apple Store or authorized repair facilities. A lot of users unfortunately don’t understand that this community is not the same as those official support departments.

"all things that anyone can do but many don’t want to search and just want someone to give them the answer so they don’t have to bother finding it themselves."

Another example of the blame everyone else except apple approach.

In response to this particular issue of certain banking widgets disappearing with the update, where's the documentation for that? Let me guess, it's not up to apple to write that documentation.

However, apple know which apps won't work with the updated IOS, after all, they administer them through the app store and they have all the data from our phones to see which apps work and which ones don't. Yet when it comes to looking for the disappeared app, you don't get anything on the phone telling you that the app/widget you used to have on the phone, that it isn't there anymore.

So why does the app store exist then? Apple says that "If you prefer using apps that have met all of Apple's App Review Guidelines, including Apple's standards for privacy, security, and quality, you can use the App Store."

So they do test them? Or they test them once only and don't bother testing updated versions of the app? How does apple then ensure that the apps meet apple's standards for privacy, security, and quality? Wouldn't "quality" include whether the app actually works?

Instead of pronouncing how it's never Apple's fault, how about holding them to their word and their promises? How about pushing them a bit to make use of their access to our data to improve our experience? If they know the app won't work, how helpful would it be for a message to appear on your phone telling you this?

I'm amazed how much effort is expended rationalising apple's poor service.

Just as we who know how things actually work are constantly amazed at how much effort uninformed people put into blaming Apple, when Apple has no control over 3rd party apps. All they do is host them in their store. If an app developer doesn't update their app or keep certain features someone may be accustomed to using, that's on the app developer. NOT APPLE.

You are unwilling to listen, so there is no point in me trying to explain how it works further.

Hysterical? LOL.....Not in the least. Maybe annoyed would be a better word, when you have continued to suggest Apple can do anything about your banks Widget, when they can't and they won't. Humans believe all sorts of things. There are actually people who believe the earth is flat. It isn't, of course, but you just can't convince them otherwise. Believing something because it's what you want to believe doesn't make it fact.

Take care susieoregon and have a nice day. And I truly mean that.
