No 4G, LTE etc option on Iphone XR

Considering that

• U.S. carriers have shut off all, or just about all of their 2G and 3G networks
• The iPhone XR does not support 5G

maybe your carrier felt that there was no need to have a LTE/4G switch. LTE/4G is probably the only way that your iPhone XR can connect to the cellular network – so there might not be much point in having some switch to turn it, and only it, off.

There are many LTE/4G cellular bands, and what coverage you're going to see will depend both on which bands are supported by your phone, and which are supported by your carrier's (Verizon's) cellular network.

LTE and 4G are two names for exactly the same thing. That’s why there is no switch. And, as 2G and 3G networks have all been shut down in the US as of December, 2023, the only network available on your XR is 4G/LTE. You can enable Wi-Fi calling with your carrier, which will allow you to make and receive calls whenever you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Because your carrier is not providing these settings.

For all practical purposes, 4G is LTE. That will have to suffice, unless you want to look for another carrier that might provide the options/settings that you are looking for.

If your coverage is bad, it’s usually either an issue with the iPhone itself, or it’s the available coverage from the carrier.

The carrier determines what particular networks are available. In your area, that’s 4G and likely also 5G.

Check with your carrier.

Consider a pay-as-you-go SIM from a different carrier — make sure it’s not an MNVO using the Verizon network — and see if that works better.

LTE is 3G, 3.95G, and also 4G, depending in which cellular marketeer you’re discussing it with.

Much like the coverage maps, the Gs and the signal bars can involve, well, marketeering.
