iPhone 16 Pro Max's screen is flickering

Screen partially flash vertical lines when the phone is picked up or unlocked. I was wondering if anyone else’s screen was flickering with white lines on the screen randomly.

I have tried to see if there’s any way to trigger it but it seems to happen at random.

As of March 20, 2025.

There is not a fix. Mine still having the same issue. It is random and cannot be triggered by a person. I thought it was a software issue. But it has to be hardware. I would use your 1 year factory warranty to get a new one and see that fixes that it. I know it is not software because 18.3.2 should have fixed this. And Apple thinks I am crazy. But there is a lot of people having this.

I just bought my 16 pro max two days ago and this issue started for me yesterday. I was able to make it stop by force restarting my phone after speaking with apple support. I noticed yesterday it started after I paired my phone to Bluetooth in my car. It also happened again this morning after my phone paired to Bluetooth again. Not sure of the correlation. Thought I’d pass it along. Will contact apple support later today with this info.

I had the vertical line problem too. After I reset my phone it went away but the flickering/flashing persists. It appears every time when the phone reloads/refreshes a page. I went to Apple authorised store to do the reset but it seems nothing they can do but reset unless it’s a defect that Apple admitted like iPhone 13 green/white screen. I don’t know who else can we complaint to. There is no official Apple customer service we can reach out directly.

I found this article online (see link below) and tried 3,4,5 (always on - off, auto adjust light, different wallpaper) and so far seems to work with NO flickering. Not happy that I need to shut off these options to avoid flickering but I can live with them as long as no more flickering.

I have had this issue too and I’ve tried to turn off auto brightness, didn’t work… I’m currently trying limiting the refresh rate to 60 and so far it’s working, but it might do it again. I’ll probably suggest trying to limit refresh rate and turn off always on display( as vishnuharish previously mentioned) together to try and stop the random vertical lines. Yet this is unacceptable from a company this large in size selling a premium device with such errors, lets hope they fix it in the next updates.

From my earlier response, I got my screen replaced. Yet it continued for a week, but then suddenly it stopped so yeah I'm not sure what it was to begin with. I also replaced my wall paper to the apple default one if that helps but Im not sure. I'd recommend replacing your screen and your wallpaper to the apple default if that helps you. But for me luckily that helps a lot as I don't see any anymore.

Hello Everyone,

I'm also having this issue on the iPhone 16 pro max. I got the phone replaced and exchanged for another unit and the issue still persists. It’s a sudden ‘flicker’ of black and white lines that last about a second. I rang apple support and they recommended putting the iPhone in recovery and reinstalling another OS in case its a software bug. But since I got the phone replaced anyway, is it really worth doing that? I’m hoping an upcoming update fixes this as I can’t keep replacing iPhones it’s clearly not hardware related. Any advice on this is much appreciated. Thanks guys.

I am also experiencing this issue with my 16 pro max. The 18.2 update was run during the activation process of the 16 pro max. Randomly, black and white vertical lines will flash on a portion of the screen for about a second. It doesn’t last long enough to capture. I also think there is some sluggish responsiveness in the touch interface. I only recently upgraded to this model, and I used iOS 18.2 for a few days on my 15 pro max prior to the upgrade and did not see the issue there during that time. As my experience with the new 16 pro max has been exclusively on 18.2, I can’t speak as to how my device would have behaved with previous software versions. I see that several people have had their phones tested and found no hardware issues. Hopefully, a future update will resolve the problem.
