Why does my iPhone 16 Pro Max Action Button require two presses?

I am currently using an iPhone 16 Pro Max on 18.0.1 and I am having issues with the action button. I always have to press it twice to get it to perform a function. I normally have it set to silent/vibrate and I noticed that I press it once and nothing happens, then a second time and it will then perform the action.

I tried setting it to the flashlight, camera, magnifier and voice memo and it does the same thing where I press once and nothing, then if I press a second time it will launch what is selected.

I was told if its intermittent issues to take it to Apple for a service repair but it's consistent that I have to press it twice.

Anyone else having this issue, was wondering if it is some how software related. I am still having the screen response issue where I have to tap several times before it will recognize it. Hoping 18.1 will fixes these issues.

Have you tried to do what is recommended by Apple, which is to press and hold the action button to engage whatever you have programmed it to do? Just tapping it once, doesn't engage it. It needs to be pressed and held until the option engages. This is likely why people are finding they need to tap it twice. It was not designed to work with one press. It's one press and hold. Give it a try and see if it works.

If this is different from how you used it previously, I'd guess too many people were accidentally engaging what it was programmed to perform by one press. Pressing and holding the button is more purposeful.
