I have a brand new M2 Studio and when I force the machine to sleep (or it goes to sleep on its own after inactivity), both monitors go dark. Then a short while later only the 2nd monitor (a DELL) goes into a backlit blank status. I have tried every setting there is on both the studio and the monitor with no success.

What is the length and speed rating of that USB-C to HDMI cable..?
The latest Mac's do not do well with long poorly made display cables.
I would test a short 1m 4K or better cable with that display.
for examples:
a 1m 4K or better HDMI to HDMI cable.
a 1m 4K or better USB-C to HDMI cable.
a 1m 4K or better USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

I switched a straight HDMI to HDMI cable and it fixed the problem. Thank you so much!!!!
Test one of those other cable options to see if that fixes it.

It’s a very short cable because the studio sits right behind it. When I put it to sleep it sleeps. But then I come back and monitor is backlit but not on. When I use these same 2 monitors with a pc (that is off btw) it doesn’t do this.
Monitor is a Dell s2721q. It is connected with a cable that goes HDMI to USBc
