How to reset an iPhone with activation lock

So the previous owners of this ‘iPhone 6s’, gave this iPhone down to me, but the problem is it had a passcode and when i tried to factory reset it the activation lock screen was shown when setting up. Unfortunately the previous owners had moved away and no longer could get in contact with them. Is there any possibility Apple can assist me with this locked device?

Sorry, but Apple will not help unless you are the original owner of the phone and provide proof of purchase.

You need to get in touch with the person who gave you the phone and ask them for their Apple ID and Password. That is the only way that you will be able to use the phone.

Until this occurs, the phone will remain useless.
