New Magic Mouse USB-C Does Not Scroll

I received my new Magic Mouse USB-C model, running 3.1.4. The issue is that it does not scroll up or down when swiping on the surface. I tried it on 2 macbooks. The mouse does not scroll. I can click and point, but not scroll. My old magic mouse scrolls fine.

Also here to confirm that updating to the latest macOS is required! 🖱️👨🏻‍💻

I ditched updating to Sequoia for a while now (on a 13" M1 MacBook Pro - first gen Apple Silicon)

I broke my old lighting Magic Mouse and bought the new USB-C Magic Mouse as a replacement.

Symptoms that you're experiencing the same situation as I did:

First red flag - the pairing is not Apple smooth.

Second red flag - though the my mouse is black it appeared as a white one in settings.

Third and final - only the pointing worked, all the gestures (including scrolling) were not working.

Apparently is wise to actually read the documentation that comes with the device.

"To use your Magic Mouse and its full range of features, update your Mac to the latest version of macOS"

Apologies for the long answer! I know that mostly anyone frustrating over their mouse not magically pairing right this moment, has got no patience for a long response but I do hope it helps to state the "red flags" of an incorect pairing.

Does scrolling work? My experience is that both tracking and scrolling don't work properly on Bluetooth, but everything works perfectly while plugged in. This is on MacOS 15.1.

When I try to scroll on Bluetooth it looks like it's going back and forth between vertical and horizontal scrolling. Also adjusting the trackpad settings for tracking speed doesn't seem to do anything, it just uses the default settings.

As soon as I plug it in using a USB C cable, everything works perfectly. I exchanged it yesterday at the Apple Store and had the exact same experience so I just returned it until they get it fixed.

The Apple Store employees didn't even realize that they need MacOS 15.1. This seems like a pretty bungled launch.

I can confirm that didn't scroll with 13.X, and after upgrade to Sequoia 15.1.1 it just started scrolling.

Kinda looked like the Macbook pro was not recognizing the Magic part of the mouse, with the gesture options completely missing form the mouse menu. I tried everything, forgetting, disconnecting, rebooting, shutting down, charging, connecting with cable, but this is obviously a backward compatibility issue that has not been resolved.

For what it's worth this update did not mess up any of my conda settings and environments so it was a pretty smooth update. Agree that it's ridiculous to have to update an OS for a mouse to work. Be better Apple.

I did notice that my older Magic mouse, that did scroll has an older firmware on it so this could be the an issue with the firmware shipped with a new mouse.

The USB-C Magic Mouse gestures do NOT work on 14.6.1 and 14.7.1. I tried both versions.

One needs to upgrade to 15.1.

But for people who cannot upgrade this is annoying.

Apple please post a work around for existing users so that older versions of MacOS will recognize the new USB-C Magic mouse gestures.

Is there configuration file one can add?
