New Magic Mouse USB-C Does Not Scroll

I received my new Magic Mouse USB-C model, running 3.1.4. The issue is that it does not scroll up or down when swiping on the surface. I tried it on 2 macbooks. The mouse does not scroll. I can click and point, but not scroll. My old magic mouse scrolls fine.

Also here to confirm that updating to the latest macOS is required! 🖱️👨🏻‍💻

I ditched updating to Sequoia for a while now (on a 13" M1 MacBook Pro - first gen Apple Silicon)

I broke my old lighting Magic Mouse and bought the new USB-C Magic Mouse as a replacement.

Symptoms that you're experiencing the same situation as I did:

First red flag - the pairing is not Apple smooth.

Second red flag - though the my mouse is black it appeared as a white one in settings.

Third and final - only the pointing worked, all the gestures (including scrolling) were not working.

Apparently is wise to actually read the documentation that comes with the device.

"To use your Magic Mouse and its full range of features, update your Mac to the latest version of macOS"

Apologies for the long answer! I know that mostly anyone frustrating over their mouse not magically pairing right this moment, has got no patience for a long response but I do hope it helps to state the "red flags" of an incorect pairing.

All the best guys! 

I think the fact that so many people have this problem and the actual problem is putting out a product requiring yesterday's OS (for no transparent or logical reason) is sad. Sadder than that is the fact that Apple does nothing about it! Do they expect people to buy a simple mouse and then go home and upgrade the OS for it? Just because this one has USB-C? Cuz otherwise is no different that the older one...

Definitely USB-C does not scroll with earlier OS - I can get it to point and click with Monterey (12.6) but not scroll- only use the side bar for scrolling, and am unable to update OS on this computer.

I have tried all of the patches described but to no avail.

I take delivery of a new Mac mini next week, and this was the mouse that Apple shipped with it, so will update if it suddenly starts working with OS15.1 or above. If it doesn't, straight back for the returns!!!

I returned it. Since it was opened, I hope I get a full refund. I bought it from Amazon, so I returned it to Amazon. I wish it worked because I hate having to replace batteries in my older wireless Magic Mouse.

A lot of people saying the same thing but the point is, it makes no difference if you are running macOS 12.xx or 15.xx the mouse and trackpad do not work. I know this because I have used this hardware with Monterey, Ventura and Sequoia, the result is identical.

There is no provision in the Apple settings menu to setup secondary functions such as swipe and scroll for the mouse and there are no settings whatsoever for Trackpad in Ventura or Sequoia.

You all need to return the hardware, then and only then will Apple act on this issue. As long as you pay for it and keep it, there is no come back on Apple, they just make money on something that does do what it says on the box. You may as well be pushing a river stone across your desk.

same issue here. Drove me mad. The older trackpad2 worked fine with my late 2013 27" imac used in work, Monterey 12.7.6 but the new USB-C one does not. It connected via BT but only as a mouse and no trackpad was available to configure in settings so it just has simple mouse features rather than support for gestures. It works fine with my macbook (Sequoia 15.1.1). Pity because my home imac is even older and I was hoping it would work there too.

Same problem on M3 MBA on 15.0. I'm updating to 15.1 right now.

Cannot pair via cable. But I'm able to connect via Bluetooth setup. But all the settings for gestures are missing and scrolling is disabled with no way to enable. Weird mouse tracking too. This is my first Magic Mouse so I'm surprised how buggy this "apple ecosystem" device is.
