New Magic Mouse USB-C Does Not Scroll

I received my new Magic Mouse USB-C model, running 3.1.4. The issue is that it does not scroll up or down when swiping on the surface. I tried it on 2 macbooks. The mouse does not scroll. I can click and point, but not scroll. My old magic mouse scrolls fine.

Also here to confirm that updating to the latest macOS is required! 🖱️👨🏻‍💻

I ditched updating to Sequoia for a while now (on a 13" M1 MacBook Pro - first gen Apple Silicon)

I broke my old lighting Magic Mouse and bought the new USB-C Magic Mouse as a replacement.

Symptoms that you're experiencing the same situation as I did:

First red flag - the pairing is not Apple smooth.

Second red flag - though the my mouse is black it appeared as a white one in settings.

Third and final - only the pointing worked, all the gestures (including scrolling) were not working.

Apparently is wise to actually read the documentation that comes with the device.

"To use your Magic Mouse and its full range of features, update your Mac to the latest version of macOS"

Apologies for the long answer! I know that mostly anyone frustrating over their mouse not magically pairing right this moment, has got no patience for a long response but I do hope it helps to state the "red flags" of an incorect pairing.

All the best guys! 

I have a late 2015 iMac with the updated software of Monterey 12.7.6

I spent 2+ hours a few nights ago to get my new Magic Mouse USB-C to connect to my iMac. The bluetooth was not working - plugging it in with a cord was not working. I finally went to the System Preferences -->Mouse and it was able to find the new mouse.

Thank goodness.

Until today when I finally had a chance to sit down at my computer and realized the touch scroll does NOT work. So frustrating. I immediately reconnected my old mouse. I have never had this much issue with something Apple. I get updating, but for the price of my iMac, and the new magic mouse, I truly feel like these things should be compatible.

Would this be classed as restrictive trade if were someone else? It seems they are paying people to find things to change to keep themselves in a job. They are changing things that have worked but some smarty thinks they need to change. In photos on Apple TV previously the time per slide was changeable but the latest upgrade it is set to approx 2 seconds. Terrible and we pay for it!!!!!

My op. system version. Ventura 13.4.1

As always, trusting Apple, I bought a new USB C magic mouse instead of my old mouse. I noticed that the scrolling feature does not work.

Since I use my computer for work, I cannot update it because of the risk of the applications not working. It is very, very bad that the scrolling feature does not work. I will not be able to use this mouse.

Apple should find a solution for this.!!

Same problem here, I am so disappointed by Apple. I tried it on both a Ventura 13.7.x MacBook Pro and on a Sonoma 14.5 MacBook Air and none are working.

The problem comes when like me, you can't upgrade your MacBook Pro from 2017 to MacOs 15.x.

THANK YOU FOR PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE !

End-of-support is not planned obsolescence...

Sooner or later, updated Operating Systems will make greater demands upon the platform than the available system hardware is capable. Apple software updates are typically available for any of its hardware platforms for five to seven years - this often being longer than other manufacturers.

Your 2017 MacBook Pro has, inevitably, reached the point in its lifecycle that major System Software Updates are no longer available.

Thanks for the link - have reported feedback. You wouldn't think it would take them months to get this updated in the older OS versions.

For context, I JUST yesterday got a new Magic Mouse (v. 3.4.1) as a gift, and it will NOT scroll or gesture (and can't even get to that screen like I can with my older mouse). I'm using Ventura 13.7.3 OS on my 2021 MacBook Pro 16 and my older, pre-2020 Magic Mouse with batteries works just fine. My boss keeps asking how I like it and I finally had to tell them the issues I was having.

If anyone else has any suggestions, would love to hear them!

Is this a joke? How tough can it be to send bluetooth scroll commands from a mouse to a Mac? Only recognized by newer System software? That's laughable.

I realize that I'm an outlier, but run Mojave because I rely on some 32-bit apps. My old Magic Mouse worked fine, until it eventually wore out and right-click no longer worked (8 years is a good run).

Apple - yank someone off your AI development team and assign them to making your mouse work on all OSX systems. Broken scrolling is beyond lame.

MacOS Ventura (13.7) user here on a 2017 MacBook Pro, with the same issue. I just picked up my new USB-C Magic Mouse today, excited not to have to use multiple charging cables for different peripherals anymore. Then I discovered that the mouse won't scroll, making it essentially a paperweight. I can't upgrade to 15.1 on my laptop.

These kinds of issues are why I quit PCs and Windoze and switched to Mac years ago. Hoping Apple comes up with a fix soon, and goes back to ensuring backwards-compatibility for their products. Forcing upgrades on people to get their hardware to function is the kind of evil nonsense that Microsoft is known for; I expect more from Apple (or at least I used to.)
