Can't turn off closed caption on my Apple TV.

I have tried all the steps Apple forums have suggested, but l can't get cc to stop turning on when l mute my sound. I have hit the up button and gone there and turned it off, but the minute l mute it, it comes right back on. I've updated and rebooted. This has been going on for about a week. Can anyone help me?
