Apple Notes on iPhone and Mac - how it optimises storage

If I have 30GB of Notes on my Mac (including attachments, PDF etc), and Notes are syncing to ICloud, do I need 30GB of space on iPhone to accommodate all the content? Or does iCloud optimise the Notes storage on the device and offload attachments until they are needed?

Is it possible to have individual notes stored on the iPhone, instead of all of them? Since Notes are by default stored on iCloud, and that requires an internet connection that may or may not be disrupted, I would like to find out if I can store individual notes on my iPhone? I have multiple notes, and i really do not know how much space all of them take up. However, I cannot use the application well, since my internet connections are horrible where I usually am. Please let me know if individual note storage is an option.

I don't want my Notes saved to iCloud but see a scary sync warning Hi and thank you! On my iPhone 14, iOS 18: Settings> iCloud> Notes. I don't want my Notes on iCloud. I want to turn off "Sync this iPhone" but the warning message says "all iCloud notes will be removed from your iPhone". I have only written these Notes on my iPhone, so will my messages be deleted from my iPhone? When I open the Notes app, to the Folders page, under the iCloud heading, the Notes Folder has zero. Under the On My iPhone heading, The notes Folder has over 100+. I really need confirmation that my "On My iPhone" notes won't be deleted if I "unsync" my iPhone Notes from iCloud. Thanks for your time!

How do I move notes from “on my iphone” to iCloud? I have an iPhone 14 iOS 17.5.1 I recently realized that my notes app is only syncing about 40 of my 940 notes. I did some searching on the forum here and found one little tidbit indicating that I needed to have iCloud selected as the default account. I changed that setting. However, there doesn’t appear to be any way to move all those notes to the iCloud account. When I click select notes, move all the only option that appears is a new folder in the same “on my iPhone” account. Nothing is clickable in the iCloud account folder. Is there an easy solution?
