Metadata on video files missing when downloaded to Windows 10 PC via iCloud.

I use my windows pc as my personal icloud. in fact 2 pc's 1 as a backup of the main files as i have them on demand. i delete the .aae files and all the ZERO length video files,this save s a lot of space, i cant just delete the smaller video files as some are 4 -5 seconds of actual video, i want to keep. i currently have 4TB of data kept going back to 2011 please fix the meta data for aspect, length especially length. I dont want to convert until i create my videos and it also wastes a lot of time just to sort and delete files not needed

Did you ever find a solution to this? I just downloaded all my photos to my PC for my semi-annual backup and everything after I updated to IOS 18 is a complete mess. I started looking around and this thread has been the most helpful; but it still doesn't seem to show a solution for how to get the metadata, and in particular the date taken, to show up in windows explorer and the file properties.

I agree, this is a problem that should not have existed. Does this P3 cameral integrate with the home screen at all? My biggest issue with my 3rd party cameral is unlocking the device and navigating to the camera app, especially when its a spur of the moment video I'm taking.

Also, is the P3 camera the one developed by Thomas Blackburn? My search for P3 camera didn't return any exact results.

Matti, you are a genius. I finally had a chance work on this project this afternoon. In about 10 minutes I successfully fixed over 150 .mov files with this workaround. Thank you so much for figuring this out and sharing with the rest of us!

Hi Matti , I don’t understand how to do this. I have just the metadata missing, thumbs are fine. Should I just install exiftool and use command prompt ( I still call it dos ) or is this done trough another type of command in exiftool.?

Using these instructions I was able to update my videos, thanks for your help. I wasn't seeing thumbnails or Date Created stamps and this fixed both.

The weird issue however is that when I load the files into Windows Movie Maker (I know it's a 2012 application, but I like it and it works), none of the updated videos have audio. I've installed the K-Lite codec package but that hasn't fixed it. If I were to watch the videos normally, they have audio. I just like to consolidate all of the videos of my kids into a single video.

When I consolidate the videos into a single video, the resulting video does have audio but I can't hear any audio while editing in Movie Maker and there are no waveforms on those videos.

I'm open to any suggestions people may have on this.

This has made my iPhone redundant in terms of video production. I spoke to someone on the Apple helpdesk last week who told me it was Microsoft's issue. I fail to see how a change made by Apple makes it Microsoft's problem to resolve.

I'm due to change my device in the next month, if this issue persists then it'll be goodbye to iPhone after many years.

Thanks for the reply. I spent far too long trying to figure out the exiftool yesterday without joy. I have found that using VLC as a batch converter is incredibly fast, but creation dates on the converted (new) files need to be edited individually which takes so much time. (I'm still struggling to see why Microsoft need to address a change made by Apple.)

Having to use a mac for work, I can safely say that I'll not be buying one anytime soon I've loved all my iPhones, but would gladly use the mac as a door wedge! I guess it's lucky this issue has arisen at the time I'm considering changing device. I may be looking at alternatives now rather than newer iphone models. Apple did tell me it's not possible to roll back to ios17, but I may try and install an old back up at the weekend. Nothing to lose...
