It can be stuck

You might want to delete the update file in order to download it again

go to Settings > General > iPad Storage

Scroll down the list of Apps until you find the Apple Update, tap, then select delete update.

After that restart your iPad and try to install it again

Assuming that your device has adequate free space (at least 4-6GB+ recommended), the time required to perform a system restore will be principally determined by a number of factors:

  • how much data must be restored
  • the type of restore (restore to Factory Settings, or Restore from Backup)
  • the type of backup - iCloud (requiring download) or iTunes (backup stored on local Windows PC or Mac computer)
  • Restore to Factory Settings: the available bandwidth of your WiFi network/internet connection
  • Restore from iCloud Backup: server load (noting that Apple’s servers are regional) and available bandwidth/speed of your WiFi network/internet connection.
  • Restore from iTunes: the speed of the computer’s USB connection and available bandwidth/speed of your internet connection.

Larger downloads, or poor network connection bandwidth, will result is slower update/restore performance. If the update is not progressing after several hours, the process may have stalled - in which case it may be necessary to restart the iPad.

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
