iPhone 16 Maps app won’t let me stop a route.

Brand new iPhone 16.

When I start a route in maps and don’t finish the route then close the app and reopen it to go to a new destination the bottom search maps section flashes a few times, the map goes full screen and doesn’t let me cancel the previous route. And the window that say end route doesn’t appear.

The only way to be able to start a new route is to drive to the first route. This obviously is not an option.

How do I fix this ?

I have the same problem on iPhone 16 pro max 1tb… its a shame to be fair.

I found that you can close the route if you swipe up to go to the home screen and the sat nav goes to Dynamic Island where you can long press and it gives an option to end the route
