YouTube Auto-Playing Issue after upgrade to iOS 18.1

So - i upgraded recently - and from time to time my youtube app wakes up and starts playing something.

Even though I see the playback control on my lock screen it does not show what is being played and pause button does nothing. Opening youtube app also does not show any playback - only when I swipe the app and close it it stops playing.

It does not happen often, I have no idea how it is triggered - most of the times the phone sits idle on the stand. Any ideas?

I have the exact same issue. This happens during the work day during presentations and meetings. A random video I have never watched before will start playing out loud. There needs to be a fix for this quick as it is embarrassing and distruptive.

Iphone 14 running iOS 18.1.1. Locked. Charging. Youtube app starts blasting at 6:20 am. From the Lock Screen I tried to pause the video, the touch controls showed it was paused but the sound continued. I open the device and exited the app, still made sound. I had to restart the device to silence it. I echo the concerns in this thread. If I hear the Youtube (a trusted) app, are there other legit apps transmitting info that shouldn't be actively doing this?

I started a chat with a YouTube agent. They said to turn off autoplay. They also said no one had reported this issue, which seemed false from what is said in this thread. This is what they recommended:

“Please try the following steps:

  1. Delete the app's cache.
  2. Make sure your device uses the latest version of the YouTube app.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall the YouTube app. Touch and hold the YouTube app icon on the home screen until it starts shaking. Tap the X, which will uninstall the app from your phone. Then, reinstall the app from the App Store. Doing this will delete your downloaded videos from the app. Don't worry. You can always redownload them. This step can help clear any glitches in the app that might be causing this issue.
  4. As a final step, try restarting your device by turning it off, then back on.

These steps often do the trick, but if you’re still having issues after trying them, the best way to let the team that design the features that you love is by sending them feedback from the app. Here's how:

  1. Tap your account icon in the top right corner of the YouTube app
  2. Tap Help & feedback > Send feedback
  3. Enter a short description of the issue and tap the arrow icon in the top right corner to submit”

has been happening to me as well- youtube shorts for me but like youtube shorts isn't supposed to play in the background in the first place like youtube videos for youtube premium users..

even though my volume isn't on, its boosting its volume, youtube app isn't even opened (in fact, my iPhone is locked) and if I go into my youtube and go under history, there seems to be a video that was "played" which has the corresponding audio that has been playing even though I never watched it. really creepy, its like someone hacked my phone/youtube :P
