YouTube Auto-Playing Issue after upgrade to iOS 18.1

Same thing for me - I recognised the audio from YouTube shorts, which can’t normally be played in the background. This is really bad and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Upgraded recently from the 14 to the 16. No issues until the 18.1 update hit. Random videos also start playing once my phone connects to my car. Really freaked me out when my phone started playing an unknown video at 1 in the morning. Hope they fix this soon!

This has also been happening to me for a few days now. I have even made sure to close the YouTube app before I go to sleep, but it still happens! I have to open the YouTube app and close it again to get it to stop. Hopefully this is fixed soon, it almost always happens at like 3 in the morning for me.

I have the exact same issue. This happens during the work day during presentations and meetings. A random video I have never watched before will start playing out loud. There needs to be a fix for this quick as it is embarrassing and distruptive.

This is incredibly unsettling and needs to be fixed. If it is a security vulnerability, someone is remotely interacting with my phone in such a way that they are able to disrupt my day. If it is a bug, it displays very eerily - even though I can go into YouTube and confirm the video history is what was playing, the lock screen of the phone does not provide any data about what's playing - just blank information!

I have the exact same problem. Apple must do something about it. It is disturbing the noice and disturbing my housemates too at night time. If this doesn’t fix immediately it will impact my housing situation and might have to move out

Mine went off while in a Client meeting and it was a video I’ve never watched. This is very embarrassing considering my phone was on silent!!! 🔕 YouTube or Apple need to address this! Just dropped $4k on new iPhones for the family and about to return all of them and get Samsung’s

same thing has been happening to me, short videos on youtube start playing in the background randomly. it woke me up this morning and startled me just a few minutes ago. started to happen after I upgraded ios on my iphone.

Same here! It happened once in the morning while I was still sleeping and happened just a few minutes ago as I was about to go to sleep. It did it the first time right after the update (like within 24hrs) it hadn’t happened in awhile so I thought it was a one time thing. This is super annoying.

Youtube is randomly playing for me when it doesn’t even exit in my task switcher. I don’t even have the option to close the app out. I have to restart my phone.

This just happened to me last night. A random YT short started playing . Woke me up from sleep and scared the **** out of me. How is it that for most people this is occurring at night? This is such non sense, Apple needs to fix this ASAP.

Same here, I am in Europe and both me and my 17 year old son experienced this, him on an 11 pro max, I on a 13 - ios18 seems to be the problem. In meetings people think I am not serious when my phone all of as sudden starts babbling away - Apple please fix this

Having the exact issue on iPhone 16 pro max. Started with iOS 18.1b and 18.2b
