Typing Roman Numerals on Macbook Pro

How do I type roman numerals on a macbook pro. Internet search says to hold down the option key and type the letter corresponding to the Roman numeral. When I try to type Roman numeral I (one). I get this ˆ

Before posting my initial response, I looked through over a hundred of the fonts I've purchased over the years, and none of them have Roman numerals in them. Not even those in Adobe's Font Folio 11 OpenType fonts.


But, the OS installed fonts do. I was able to use the Unicode numerical input numbers on all of those I tried. Some look nicer than others, but they are there.
