When I said that my search missed an album, I was looking for "For Watch," an album I had maybe 10 days ago made for, well, my watch face. It didn't find "For Watch," but it found another album, "Old For Watch." So it missed the one starting with"For," but got one that had a different starting word. Hmm.

The strange thing is, that Photos for Mac is finding both albums with Tromsø in the name of the album, but not Photos iOS on my iPhone Pro Max with iOS 18.

Perhaps both devices have scanned the library differently and the iPhone has to complete the scan. The library is identical, synced with iCloud Photos.

Which part of the album name are you searching for? I can find all albums, as long as I enter the full name of the album, or at least the beginning part of the name. But when I try to search for a later part of the album name, for example the second word of the name, no albums are found, only photos showing the search string as a text.

For example, I have two albums named "2025_02_07_Tromsø_Tag_01_Anreise" and "2025_02_12_Tromsø_Tag_06_Rückreise".

When I search for "2025_02", both albums are found. But searching for "Tromsø" will just find the photo of the ticket, not the album.

Well, as I said, I "search" did not find "For Watch." And I'm talking about my phone, not my iPad or my Mac.

However, I goofed about the other one it found-- I said it found "Old For Watch," and I was surprised because it didn't start with "For." I looked again-- it was "For Watch Old" that it found, but it didn't find "For Watch." Weird, but not as weird as I thought. And, by the way, my Mac and iPad both find "For Watch" as well as "For Watch Old."

For another post (and not about albums) I did a search for "Red Flower" and got 209 hits on my Mac, 211 hits on my iPad, and 16 on my iPhone.

And Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, for Americans-- everyone else: Happy Thursday!

I first looked about a week ago, and this morning "Red Flower" still gets 209 hits on my Mac, 211 hits on my iPad, and 16 on my iPhone. All the pictures returned by "Red Flower" on the phone are red flowers with no people in them, except for two texts and a picture of a blue nebula in an astrophoto.

One thing: the iPhone is a 12 Pro-- and I have failed to remember that there's no AI. The iPad and Mac do have AI.

With the latest update I cannot in the search on photos bring up any of the hundreds of album names that I have bothered to put together. In the past I could put any word that was in the album name and it would show every album that had that word in it. Now I can’t get any search results similar to that. So I have done lots of work to put photos in albums that I could easily search and I can no longer find what I’m looking for.

For a person who has over 150,000 photos and hundreds of albums to help me find the photo I want, this is debilitating.
