Problem keeping connection to external monitor MacBook Pro

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro, 4 thunderbolt Ports, running Sonoma 14.7 and for several years, I have had - and still have - problems maintaining a connection to an external monitor (various monitors) using a UGREEN multiport connector. I can make a connection but if the laptop goes to sleep, I lose it and it often wont reconnect again to the external monitor (to reconnect, I have to disconnect from the lap top and try reconnecting on different ports, or reboot the computer, or sacrifice a small pet and even then, I might not be able to get the monitor to connect).

Should I buy a different docking station? Do I need to download DisplayLink - any suggestions?
