Why are subtitles unavailable on BBC iPlayer for Apple TV?

what I’m getting this seems to be an Apple problem not a BBC problem

The BBC iPlayer app on Apple TV operates on a legacy version that lacks support for certain features, such as subtitles. The BBC has developed a standard version of iPlayer, utilised by the majority of connected television devices, which includes subtitle functionality. However, Apple TV continues to use an older version of the app that does not support the technology required for delivering subtitles.
