Apple News Fails to Load After iOS 18.2 Installation

Apple News fails to load after iOS 18.2 install on 7 Gen iPad. Tried deleting and reinstalling news app, resetting network settings, pausing VPN, and a full reset, all without success. Any tips would be appreciated.

So ... I have been able to get it to work after 18.2.1 on 7th Gen iPad [partially!]. Following some of the previous recommendations, here are the steps:

  • Turn off Apple News in iCloud
  • Remove the app and choose to delete the data
  • Restart the iPad
  • Re-download the app ...... but before you open it again .... turn off your wifi
  • Open the News app. It will tell you it is not connected to the internet
  • Turn on your wifi again ... the app should start syncing and load up
  • DO NOT turn iCloud News again, this recreates the spinning problem

This gives you a working install of News+, but without the syncing across devices. You can re-select magazine again and enter subscriptions etc. I've been through this cycle a couple of times (I made the mistake of turning News on again in iCloud the first time) and it looks to be repeatable. Not ideal, but if it works for you, at least you have got some of your functionality back. Good luck!

“Doesn’t work as expected”. Cancelled my subscription and requested a refund. I recommend we all follow suit to get their attention with the money, because they are not delivering.

Other comments discussed not closing the app - doesn’t matter, fail, fail, fail (see my other posts in other threads of same topic) - I’ve tried mostly everything and never used a VPN.

ipad 7th generation.

I too have family plan and it’s just not worth the money to wait when there’s other free news alternatives for the time being. I’m taking advantage the failure-to-launch to broaden my news-feed horizons.

If they are not going to support the app on iPad 7th generation then say so, but, it’s been a month now and the update didn’t fix it. The best way to get their attention is going to be through a mass exodus of money. I hope you reconsider and cancel. What’s the next app they only half-*** support and charge us for?

I have, not only because of this issue, but the general aging and overall performance of my iPad 7th gen, decided to purchase a new iPad 10th gen. I am very disappointed that the Apple people have let this problem fester and remain unfixed. Hopefully this isn’t a precursor for other failings by Apple. Despite upgrading myself, I hope Apple eventually fixes this and people again get what they have paid for.

Same exact problem, and fear, here. Is this Apples’s way of “forcing” us all to upgrade to their newest device/product? I can’t understand why “all supported devices” and their corresponding “free Apple Apps” were not tested before this 18.2/18.2.1 IOS update. And, this is the 2nd occurrence, the first failure was breaking the Apple Music app not too long ago.

Please Apple, you’re better than this, at least explain the apparent mishap..

In doing this, you’ve taken away something we all loved and used daily…Again!
