Google vs Apple iCloud storage

We have no way of knowing what you are using the storage for so don't know what you need.

If you are primarily a user of Apple devices it is usually more likely that you need Apple iCloud storage than Google storage but individual cases vary. You don't need to pay for Google storage to use Google Mail. I don't and Gmail works just fine. However, if your free storage is full and you don't clear some of it or else pay for more, there won't be any space for new mail and your Gmail will not work.
