Stolen iPhone 12 Pro Max in Paris travels to Algeria, UK texts via WhatsApp

  1. Iphone stolen in france oct 2024.
  2. 2. made police report.
  3. 3. called phone co. for new sim and got new iPhone.
  4. 4. 2 months later, get a text from Algeria from a UK area code.
  5. 5. Person says phone scam and of course they want me to release my phone from iCloud; but I won't.
  6. 6. got a message from 213 area code displaying full number: "dear customer, your iPhone 12 po max has been found. Your iPhone's last reported location is available at: https://icloud.com.ua
  7. 6a. Got another message: "your iPhone 12 Pro Max has been accessed by passcode. IF it was not you lock it now at: https://icloud.com.ua/acces apple support.
  8. not sure if I should respond at all since I don't expect to get my stolen phone back
  9. 8. I am afraid to click on these and am only using find my iPhone and calling apple support myself. 9. There seems to be a pattern of phones being taken to Algeria.
  10. 10. Waiting for apple support to open.

The messages are not from Apple Support. They are “phishing” messages from criminals, intended to trick you into revealing your credentials so that the bad guys can get into your phone. They want to clear Activation Lock (so they can “make your phone their own”) - and possibly also to ransack your data.


Apple does not get involved with lost or stolen phones - which is one giveaway that the messages you received are scams. Do not provide any requested information, click on any links, or interact with the senders in any way.
