Refund on Apple Card with Apple Pay didn’t work?

I tried to accept a refund on a payment made with an Apple Card via Apple Pay and it declined? The store clerk said number didn’t match the card used?

How does Apple Pay refund process work? I just did a return/refund at a retail store and the original purchase was made from my phone using Apple Pay with my unique digital card number. When will the refund be put back on the debit card that was used?

Your Apple Card has three different sets of numbers. Did you pay using Apple Pay (Tap-To-Pay) or did you use the chip or mag stripe on the metal card?
